Fast Set 3 in. Outside Fit or 4 in. Inside Fit PVC Hub Toilet Flange with Test Cap and Stainless Steel Ring

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This came in very handy, we redid our bathroom and put in a new toilet, unfortunately the toilet wobbled. Well I used this flange and the toilet no longer wobbled. I am amazed at how well this worked and how easy it as to install.

I like the stainless steel ring on this. I've seen the all plastic toilet flange bend a little so I hope this one won't since it's stainless steel. The most important thing, in my opinion is to get an extra thick wax ring and never to use the supplied 1 inch wax ring or the foam rings. We're in the middle of renovating 2 more units so I've been able to try different ones and feel like this is a good middle ground. It is made in China, though.

This is the best toilet flange offered by Oatey. First, for those who are unfamiliar with what a toilet flange is used for let me quickly explain. It is a plumbing fitting that is attached to the waste pipe that services the toilet. The PVC flange is permanently cemented to the pipe - in the correct orientation for the toilet bolts (called Johnny bolts) - and the ring is then attached to the bathroom floor with 6 screws. It is to the flange that a wax ring is applied and the toilet is bolted. The pipe itself can be made of cast iron, copper, ABS and PVC. In very old houses it may even be made of solid lead. For the sake of this review my comments are applicable only to PVC drainage systems. When installing toilet flanges I always install ones that balance longevity with ease of installation. Hands down, one with a stainless steel ring offers both ease of installation and reasonable longevity. This one by Oakey is a very good one. There are two other choices for PVC systems: 1. solid PVC flanges, which likely will last the life of the building, but must be precisely aligned when attaching it to the pipe with PVC cement because misalignment will not allow a toilet to be mounted to it. Once the glue cures a solid one piece plastic flange cannot be adjusted. 2. A PVC flange with a painted steel ring. This is the least desirable toilet flange because although it is easy to install and the ring can be adjusted even after the glue has cured the painted steel ring will eventually rust, the toilet bolts become loose, and the toilet begin to rock. I have remodeled dozen of bathrooms where this is exactly what has happened. Sadly, plumbers use them all to often because they are the cheapest to buy. This Oatey PVC flange with a stainless steel ring is the BEST choice, in my opinion. Since it is a two piece unit, once the flange is glued onto the pipe, the stainless steel ring can be properly aligned before screwing it to the bathroom floor. The 340 grade stainless steel ring, although it will eventually rust, will likely last for many years and certainly outlast the painted steel ring many times over. I highly recommend this flange when it is time to replace your old flange or whenever building a new bathroom. Although this is the best flange available for PVC systems and it is the only one I use professionally, I gave it a quality is rating of GOOD not EXCELLENT only because of the quality of the stainless steel used for the ring. Type 340 stainless will hold a magnet and will eventually rust. Despite this shortcoming, this Oatey toilet flange is currently the best one that is available. An added feature is the molded in place test cap which is rated for 21 psi, the equivalent of a 5 story building. Once your system has passed the plumbing inspection, this cap can be punched out with several hammer blows before mounting the toilet. This product is made in China.

This is a solid unit and should serve very well as a connection/ mount for your toilet. I like the turning ring with the slots for stool bolts and holes for the anchor screws. This allows some adjustment in case you didn't line up the flange when you were gluing the assembly together. The PVC is heavy duty and the ring is stainless and also heavy duty. There is a cap that you pry out prior to setting the stool which keeps you from losing things down the drain and will be handy if a pressure test is required.

These flanges are much stronger than the all-plastic versions. If there’s a possibility that the commode may have any movement as a result of uneven flooring, this version will survive where others won’t.
