The trough is a tool trough. It can be a place to hold parts you’ll need, often used tools, collect shavings, or hold some weights to keep the bench more stable. I keep my most often used chisels, mallet, and a work light as my garage lighting sucks.

Probably better for that than heavy woodworking. Be aware that there are holes running the length of the bench (dog holes) and I suppose that jewelry bits could fall through them.

I knew going in, there would be issues just based on price. This is a beginning work bench. I thought it would be heavier, but it skips and twists when I plane or chisel. The wood wasn’t sanded or smoothed and I spent a day cleaning up the edges, sanding down rough spots and finally putting it together. It goes together pretty easily and i had zero problem building it by myself, including flipping it over. That was when I realized exactly how light this thing is. I have it up against a support for stability but that doesn’t keep the bench from sliding, rocking, or twisting when I work on it. The drawer has come in handier than expected unless I’m trying to clamp something down and work in front of the center of the bench. I end up clamping the drawer closed. Not a huge deal. The vice is easily damaged- in fact the whole bench is a bit softer than I expected. OTOH you get what you pay for and for the price, other than weight and the preponderance of a lack of finish sanding/splinters the bench is holding up for now. Its less helpful when trying to carve while clamped in the vice- but if you sit at a stool and keep your feet on the shelf- it helps keep it steady enough. If you want a temporary or even portable work station until you have the skills and know what you want to build- this works. Just limit your expectations and you’ll get some time and use out if ut while you prep to make your own.

I helped a friend build an Olympia Tools Hardwood Workbench and it was pretty good for the money. (Good for lite weight crafts and such). So when I saw this one online at Home Depot, I ordered it. While this one was shaped the same, the quality is really bad. The wood is cheap, edges are rough, the holes and screw places had splinters sticking out from them. There is exposed glue on the legs, and there was no matching of colors o the wood. There appeared to be a finish but the surface was still rough. I had to sand down the sides cause of the splinter and chipped wood danger. I should have taken this back to Home Depot. If I had seen a display in the store, instead of online, I would not have bought this item. On the good side, at least it had all the parts.

It’s a $109 workbench so it’s not super heavy and stable. It gets the job done though. It’s made from wood similar to balsa. I figure I can replace certain pieces with better wood if I want. I’ve used it already to make this recycled pallet shelf in my bathroom, added photo

Good enough quality for the price. Only issue was the pegs that it came with reeked of the mildew because the bag it came in had moisture. Only thing in the package that was mildewed. Not really an issue, the bench doesn't need them.

Lightweight Woodworker Bench - a good value
Put my OLYMPIA 84-906 workbench together yesterday. My thoughts are: The Good: - I purchased on sale for $115.54 including shipping to my house, and tax. I knew that it wasn't a heavy duty workbench but it is satisfactory for my needs - No parts missing - always a plus with such items. - Delivery was fast - under a week from order to delivery. - All of the holes lined up. - It looks nice, fits my space and is reasonably sturdy. The Bad: - The included instructions are poor, as others have said. It was mostly, but 100% intuitive. The drawer was quite arcane. -- The five pages of actual instructions were photos and very, very little instruction! -- Parts in the instruction manual images were numbered but the actual parts had no number, making part identification more challenging than it should have been. - Included fasteners, in one case, don't match the instructions. Lag screws were substituted for Allen head screws. Actually, I preferred the lag screws but the instructions should have been updated. - Finish was inconsistent. NOTE: only exposed rubberwood, meaning visible surfaces were finished and sanding was inconsistent. One leg was never sanded and has a very rough surface with protruding wood fibers. - Not all wood parts are of Rubberwood hardwood. The drawer and a few other underside parts are pine - a very soft looking pine.

It's a good, basic, 'I need now' type of bench until you grow out of it. I think we will keep it even after as a secondary, supplement bench. * when building it, follow the instructions only to a certain extent, don't get too frustrated, the instructions aren't very well done.

I love the bench, it a perfect size for my studio I woodworks & sculpt and bench will be a great work surface for me. My only complaint is like many others, the instructions are very vague, so if your new at putting furniture together you may have difficulty. The two extra things I did was glue parts before mounting to other parts. And I needed more height, so I added a 2×4 runner under the legs and then mounted steel castors to bring height up to 39 inches- perfect for standing up straight, no stooping I do recommend this bench even with bad instructions.❤

Great little work bench. Its great for my "Apartment Work Shop" and plenty sturdy after screwing it down to my "shop floor". It was easy to put together and is a convenient size for most projects. The vise is simple and one of may favorite features. I could take or leave the tool trough, the drawer is nice to have though.
