Yes it does. If you order it, inspect it before you leave the store.

What is a metal dog? What is its function?

What is a metal dog? What is its function?
Asked by: Bligh
The metal dog is the metal protrusion on the top of the moveable jaw. It can be raised and lowered as desired. The function is to provide a movable clamping point (controlled by the vise) to capture an object between it and another dog (bench dog) or clamp attached to the workbench to which the vise is mounted.

What is it weight?

Asked by: Wanderlan
The vise weighs 7 pounds. This is a good medium to heavy duty vise for the hobby woodworker.

6-1/2 in. Hobby Woodworker's Vise is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Quality-RUST Ordered this vise online and was very disappointed to see surface rust and oil on the handle. Upon removing the vise from the box and plastic bag, I noticed a rusty stain on my hands. The handle, rods and threaded acutator were coated oil and surface rust. Looks like these parts were black oxide coated at some point, but that finish was long gone. And the vise faces where not parallel when closed. Small gap on one side. Bad fit! I returned the vise to The Home Depot store and was given a full refund, including shipping costs. Great return service, lousy quality vise. Stick with chrome finish parts! Bought the PONY 6 1/2" vise while in the store - 100% better!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hobby is the key word here If you are the occasional woodworker looking to quickly and inexpensively add a vise to a table used for a bench, this is a pretty good option. If you are more serious about woodworking, this may fall short of your expectations. One can never have enough devices that hold wood. I chose to add this to one of my benches to allow me to do some quick work while I had something big on the bench or was using the end vice for something else. PROS: The quality of the jaws is pretty good. The casting is clean and smooth. They were not square to each other but that isn't a big deal since I added wooden vise chops anyway Capacity is on par with other smaller vises Installation was easy. I notice in many other reviews people complain about having to enlarge the screw holes. I did not find this necessary in either installing the wooden jaws or bench attachment. CONS: This unit was shipped devoid of any kind of grease. Grease is a necessary evil. While annoying to clean, it keeps everything from rusting. The cast iron dog was rusted solid to the housing. after a good bath in rust remover, some penetrating oil, and some machine oil to coax it along, it still does not slide without the aid of a hammer or mallet. In addition the dog is cast iron. I would prefer brass or WHMWP. I wouldn't want to run a plane iron over cast iron. This has a very fine thread pitch and no quick release. You are going to spend a lot of time turning the handle. Coarse threads would have been much better in the absence of a quick release. The handle is cast iron. I would prefer stainless steel. Cast iron does not have a good tactile feel and is very prone to rust. Any protective coating will surely be scratched off as the handle slides in the end of the screw. Fortunately it can easily be removed so I will replace it with hardwood or stainless. If you are a serious woodworker or aspire to be, and don't want to spend 4 to 5 times this on a proper vise, you may be disappointed. However this is a nice hobby vise - especially for the price. It will do well for holding work. Hopefully you have better luck with the dog than I did because that makes this vise a lot more versatile.

The vise does not come with the metal dog, contrary to what is stated on the description and picture. The dog was the main reason I purchased this vise, I would be sending it back. It looks like they ran out of the one in the picture and are sending people a different one without notification (see pictures for the exact one I received). Don't bother to buy if you want the dog.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very well built and inexpensive vise I needed a small vise to attach to my fix-it workbench in the garage. This vise works nicely in that application. It is easy to install and is has a surprisingly wide throat. There are pre-drilled holes for mounting a wood face to protect the surface of what is being clamped. The screw mechanism works well and after using it a few times, I think it is a great tool for the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good or the price. It's one of the few... Pretty good or the price. It's one of the few of it's kind that can be mounted under the bench surface, where the top of the vice is flush with the bench top. This allows me to use the vice with bench dogs along the bench surface and allows holding work pieces much larger than the vice gap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GreaT Value While not heavy duty like models costing 5 times as much--- these vices (bought 2) get the job done. When adding the appropriate wooden spacer depending on dimension of your bench, they mount flush on the vertical face of the workbench and even with the top surface.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Buy for Price Very easy to install. Has a LARGE opening for clamping. Great buy (less than $25) for DIY handyman. I bought a second one for my son.
