I wouldn’t recommend it. The screw threads might not go deep enough. These are better going directly into wood.

what does the 1-1/4" measure
Hi and thank you for your inquiry. The 1-1/4" measures the fully installed projection of the hook.
The 1-1/4" measures the distance from the joint of the screw threads and the smooth hook portion out to the distal curve of the hook. It indicates how much the cup hook will stick out from the surface once it's installed. The diameter of the hook is closer to 3/4" and the opening of the hook is about 5/8".
