Can I make a shower panel with this?

Can I make a shower panel with this?
Asked by: DL
You can use acrylic sheets for sliding shower panel doors for your shower enclave, I have and they look beautiful and are much safer than glass panels. There have been too many reports of shower glass panel doors 'exploding' due to kids or adults slamming the sliding door to hard when opening it due to a faulty tempering process that's done in China, (if you order kits manufactured in China). That being said, you want an acrylic panel that is exactly 1/4" thick in order to fasten and hang within metal sliding shower brackets. You'll have to drill a hole through each bracket in order for a steel pin to support each panel. (do not use brackets that only designate to use a rubber flap between the clasp of the metal brackets, they don't work. Note: When cleaning acrylic sheets after showering, keep a small bottle of a mild detergent like DAWN diluted with water in a spritzer with a small soft RUBBER squeegee, DO NOT USE powder (like Comet) or Window cleaner that contains ammonia or bleach. Other than that, substituting glass for acrylic panels in shower panels is safer and hold up just as well as glass. Yes, acrylic panels are rather pricey, depending on the length and width of your shower enclave, however if you have kids, and/or live in a state prone to earthquakes - they're much safer and a popular trend nowadays - as well as a good selling point in a home going on the market. Tip: For DIY advanced artists into etching, I've seen some excellent mural designs lightly etched on the exterior of sliding acrylic shower panels done with rotary tools and the results are exquisite.

Can this be used as a shelf in the corner cabinet in the kitchen? Is it strong enough to hold cutlery?
Asked by: homedepotfan
Depends how wide the shelf requirement is needed and the total weight of the cutlery. A 1/4" thick acrylic sheet two feet wide max with a flat steel rod running under the sheet for support would suffice however it depends on the weight of cutlery and width of the shelf required.

can I get the store to cut to size needed after I buy the sheet
Asked by: al
When I asked them, they said no. I used a 60 tooth blade in my circular saw. Too fine of a blade will just melt it. At 0.22-in, it was too thick to score and break.
