Can OSI QUAD be used to adhere a vapor barrier to concrete walls?

Asked by Ray June 6, 2021

Answer

Thank you for the question. The OSI QUAD Sealant is a solvent based product. The product is not designed or intended for this purpose and may or may not be compatible with certain types of vapor barrier. It would also not be recommended if used interior in occupied living structures. Product may not cure properly allowing solvent vapors to linger.

Answers

Thank you for the question. The OSI QUAD Advanced Sealant is paintable when fully cured. Cure time is approximately 7-14 days or longer depending on ambient conditions and volume of sealant used. Latex paint is recommended. If using oil based/alkyd paint, a latex primer should be used first. Keep in mind that paints in general are more rigid than sealants and may crack, wrinkle or lose adhesion during sealant movement in extreme conditions.

Answer

Thank you for the question. The OSI QUAD Clear is not recommended to be used on the Polycarbonate plastics as it may cause surface crazing and weaken the plastic. We would recommend the GE 100% Silicone Sealant for Plastic Sheets – Translucent (Model #GE-55 Store SKU #101241). See your local store or store associate for assistance.

Thank you for the question. The QUAD Advanced Sealant can not be sanded very well and will more than likely clog the sanding materials used in the process.

I've had this in place for about 2 weeks. This was recommended by a high end window installer with the highest recommendations. I'd rather pay a little more and get better lifetime coverage, than to keep reapplying every few years. This is really tough stuff and awesome to apply. Does not shrink or peel, which is very important to say the least. Another good feature is that it has a self puncturing seal, so you don't have to insert a tool to puncture the seal initially. I'd recommend wearing vinyl gloves, once this dries on your hands it's very tough to get off.

Very viscous consistency straight out of the tube. At first I thought I had purchased some old caulk but after reading other reviews I believe this product is just normally very stiff. I bought this for sealing under the mounting flanges of new windows but it is so stiff that it causes the flange to buckle between nails. Pushing on the flange helps the caulk to spread but I still ended up with a "wavy" flange. It probably would work great for applications where compression isn't necessary. It cures to a flexible, rubbery seal.

Very good caulking
Excellent product. Make sure you allow plenty of cure time before you want to paint, minimum required is 7 days. Use mineral spirits to clean up, the only thing that works.

Good product, strong odor
I purchased this to seal the exterior of leaking window in our sunroom. It was easy to use but it leaves a strong odor in the room. It’s been 2 days and the odor builds up if I don’t leave a window open. Disappointed in this aspect of the product since it was not mentioned.
