This kettle looks really nice. Instead of having a separate lever to open up the spout cover you just use the kettle handle. When you go to pour out the water the handle naturally moves in the direction to open the cover. When you place it down on the stove it naturally goes the other way and closes the cover. Hopefully it continues to work well as it gets older. The whistle is loud enough to hear but not obnoxiously loud. It also has a nice soft non-stick handle. It is expensive and if you want a cheap kettle you can get one for a lot less.

if you want to boil water fast - this may not be the kettle for you. Despite that - it is a very nice looking tea kettle with a whistling spout cap that is automatically opened when you pick up the kettle - a very convenient feature. The diameter of the kettle bottom is 8 inches and fully covers a large electric burner. Note that the manufacturer recommends using only a medium heat setting - for both gas and electric burners - this recommendation appears on both sides of the use / care leaflet and appears to be so important - its even etched inside the lid (see photos). Having the spout cap automatically open when lifting the kettle is a great feature, but you have to remember to push the handle down when putting the kettle on the stove, otherwise the whistling cap will remain open.

This Tea Kettle is not only functional, it looks great in my kitchen. The brushed stainless steel finish with black handles are a nice touch. The kettle, especially the handle and spout assembly, are well made and heavy duty. A soft padding on the handle makes for a comfortable grip and the spout cover lifts automatically when you lift the kettle. When the water boils the spout cover sounds a whistle that you will not miss even if you are in another room.

Kettle has been used 3 or 4 times every day (on a gas range) and is working fine. Tilt action is working perfectly. No rust. Whistle is loud enough, but when going full blast is very high pitched so may be difficult to hear for people with hearing loss ( I can vouch for this - I don’t hear it if I’m not close by.

The tea kettle still works beautifully, looks great, The water heats quickly: enough water to fill my teapot and a bit left over heats over a medium flame in about 4 minutes. The finish is excellent still. No problems with the cork handle. I love the look of the kettle. The Stainless steel is a good look and OXO is an excellent company and they back their products with full customer support. I highly recommend this brand. I can always count of OXO to produce great items.

Just when you thought that whistle technology was perhaps the last great improvement in tea kettle design, along comes OXO ingenuity with a “self opening” spout. This is a well made, stainless steel kettle, with a very adequate whistle and a soft feeling, non-slip handle. What’s really neat, is that when you lift the kettle and begin to pour, the spout opens automatically, allowing for truly one-handed operation.

My wife was not happy with our old tea kettle so I thought I would get her a new one. I selected the Good Grips 8-cup brushed stainless steel kettle. It looks very nice with sleek lines and a soft grip handle. It has a removable lid that sits under the handle and is a press fit with a seal to hold it in place.
When you pick up the pot by the handle opens the lid on the spout. My wife was quick to point out that handle seemed loose. There is a pin through the handle so that the upward pull on it it allows the spout lid to rise. The hole drilled in the handle is a bit larger than the pin so it allows a lot of movement and when not full it rattles. The next item she pointed out is the lid to the pot is directly under the handle and hard to put water in without splashing over the handle and down the curvature of the pot. Her final complaint is that when you are moving about filling cups at the table the spout lid is open and she is afraid she will spill hot water on persons at the table. So the pot looks great and is easy to clean stainless steel. Practically speaking it is a high priced kettle with some design flaws that hinder its usfullness.
