A:  A pair of metal cutting snips.

    A:  I use aviation snips. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Wiss-9-3-4-in-Compound-Action-Straight-and-Left-Aviation-Snips-M1RS/100026634?MERCH=REC-_-searchViewed-_-NA-_-100026634-_-N

Q:what size nut fits through the smaller hole?
    by|Jun 11, 2020

    Answer This Question

A:  I am using #8 flathead phillips head wood screws, and they fit in both size holes. In the smaller hole, the threaded part of the #8 wood screw fits snugly, but I'm able to screw it in. In the bigger hole, the #8 flathead wood screw head is wide enough to hold the tape in place perfectly. I happen to be using stainless steel 5/8 inch screws. I'm not sure if a longer #8 inch screw would be thicker in the threaded part, but you could still use it in the larger holes, even if the thread is thicker on the longer #8 inch screws, as the head should be the same width, I'm pretty sure (double-check that, I'm not a screw expert). At any rate, if a 5/8" flathead screw will work for you, it will work perfectly in both sized holes for sure.

A:  The holes in the strap are 1/4" and 1/2" in diameter.

Q:which nail do you use for this strap?

        Answer This Question

A:  I use a screw. Any nail that fits through the hole and is at least 1 inch long should work.

        by|Jun 19, 2021

A:  As for nails, I've used roofing nails, the heads are big and cover much of the strap. Many other factors apply...I use the longest I can use that the wood would accept....who wants it to pull out, not me. I've also used screws more! Deck screws to help me hold the strap where I think I need it...there's never a second person around when you need one...so a screw can be your best friend. I ALWAYS back up the screws with a gav-roof nail in the second hole once all is where it should be. Be smart...if you are hangin' a heavy object...use several straps...and don't be afraid to double up on the holding power...screws&nails together! Just my opinions here

A:  I normally use screws, but roofing nails are a good choice, if I can rap around joist will always use 1/4"- stainless bolts and nuts.

A:  Yes, but really for long term use it designed for lighter loads, depends on fastener used.

A:  Much needs to be known as to the question..what are you hanging and how long and how many straps per length will you use? For the same price you can get 20guage from Zoro...I would think more strength or "over compensate" would be better for the safety of everything and everyone concerned? just my know nothin' two cents
