how does this "medium gray" product compare to "heavy duty gray" product? i'm very confused, maybe an oatey factory rep could answer this. i am trying to cement 4" sched 40 used in a sewer tie-in from my house to the street box.

This is according to the information on the manufacturer website: Medium Duty:Medium-Bodied Gray cement for use on all schedules and classes of PVC pipe and fittings up to 6” diameter with interference fit. Heavy Duty: Heavy Duty Gray cement for use on all schedules and classes PVC pipe and fitting up to 12” diameter with interference fit, up to 18” for non-pressure. Extra Heavy Duty: Extra heavy-bodied, slow-setting, gray solvent cement for use on all classes and schedules of PVC pipe up to 30". The heavy duty cement is for gluing larger diameter pipe then the medium duty cement. The medium duty will work for gluing a 4" diameter CPVC/PVC pipe with a CPVC/PVC primer applied prior to applying the PVC cement.

Do I need a primer to use this on PVC?

Asked by: vio
This electrical PVC cement does not require a primer unlike the solvent weld PVC cement that is used for plumbing to glue PVC waste, drain and vent pipes and their associated PVC fittings. It is critical that the ambient temperature for storage and usage of this PVC cement be in the range of 40 degree F to 110 degrees F for this PVC cement to cure properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal cement for gluing electrical PVC conduit This PVC cement is designed and ideal for gluing electrical PVC conduit and electrical PVC conduit fittings following the printed manufacturer instructions on the package labeling. The 8 OZ can is a convenient size for a small job. Was able to easily glue 90+ feet of 1" PVC conduit with a dozen PVC conduit fittings together with using less than half of the 8 OZ can.
