when using Purple Primer, how long do i wait before using the Oatey PVC Cement. on a 2" washer drainpipe at 92°?

The primer dries right away. We applied the cement immediately after applying the primer. We have no leaks, pipes haven't slipped off of one another, no problems whatsoever.

This stuff is very permanent on most plastics. The only other thing I would try is Lacquer Thinner, but only try where it will not do any damage, first. Good Luck.

yes, it is. but, unless your project is covered with foreign material that needs to be removed and you don't want it on the primer dauber, most applications will not require a cleaner. I hope that answered your question.

What is the best way to remove if spilled on concrete?

Asked by Mannan April 8, 2016

Answers

I would say this purple primer permanently stains concrete and anything else it is spilled on. I am not aware of a proven or quick way to remove the stains in concrete. I would expect to see traces of the stain after pressure washing, scrubbing, or any other method or product you attempt to use to remove the stain. Sanding can help, but that is removing the concrete. I have seen quite a few accidents with this purple primer, and I have seen a lot of people trying to clean up a spill, but I have never seen anyone completely remove a stain from concrete. It is important to protect anything that could get stain damage, including your clothes and shoes. The clear primer will leave a clear stain instead of a purple one. The draw back is that you or an inspector can't see it on the pipe or fittings.

Works real well. Was actually surprised that as thin as it is it works well. It doesn't leave the mess that the thicker PVC. When used in combination with the thick PVC glue it is impossible to take apart. I used it for low voltage camera data wires underground between house and garage and havent had any problems. Also it isn't as messy as most PVC glues and primers.

Oatey purple primer works as it should, that is to clean and soften the pvc pipe and fittings so the cement makes the proper bond without leaks. That is of course that the proper steps are followed. I have been using Oatey pvc purple primer and pvc cement for decades and have always been satisfied with the results so I would definitely recommend this product.

We used this OATEY PVC AND CPVC PURPOSE PRIMER (which comes in an 8 ounce size, with a built-in brush to use as an applicator) to help remove some dirt and oil from some PVC piping and prepare the pipes for applying the PVC glue to the pipes which we were installing for both a pump we installed and piping for our orchid house; this product worked well and was easy to apply The product worked well and the purple color of the solution helped to identify where we needed to apply the solvent, which is very helpful

(What's this)
My development had a new reclaimed water system installed and I used this product to install a main water line from the new meter up into my yard where my sprinkler system valve box was located. My old sprinkler system valves were over 20 years old and in very poor shape so I decided to replace all the valves with new ones. I used this product on every connection to insure a good secure connection The old potable water system water pressure was around 40 lbs of pressure...the new reclaimed water line pressure was 60-65 lbs. so it was very important to have all the connections secure. I was very pleased when my new system was inspected the inspector said it was one of the nicest installations he had seen....he turned on the water and I did not have a single or issue at all!

(What's this)
I found a dirty piece of PVC pipe and applied the primer. The dirt was removed with very little effort revealing a clean pipe ready for cement. The included brush was the right size to get into 1/2" fittings as well as coating 4" pipe or larger with little effort. I found the cap to tight to remove by hand and required channel lock pliers to open the can. The purple color makes it easy to see the area that has been primed. I have had customers that do not like this and would prefer a clear or white cleaner. The purple also stains anything that it contacts and is best used with gloves and protection from drips.

Whether you are doing a plumbing repair or new work the only way to insure a good glue contact and seal for leaks is with a good primer. This primer is not the best looking when a job is done but just a quick glance you know it was done right the purple is a stain so inspectors know you used it to make the proper glue joint. Easy screw off cap has built in brush to clean both pieces to be glued dries in seconds so you can glue right a way.

This is a must have if you are working with pvc. While right off the shelf from the store or kept on hand pvc and cpvc can have a bit of residue on it, either from the making, storing or even from picking it up. Purple primer redies the surface for the glue, and helps remove anything that may cause the glue not to grip as well as it should. Water pipe or sewer pipe, you don't want it to leak even the slightest. Prime it before you glue it.Both halves.

(What's this)
After reading the instructions, with a magnifying glass, i would like to add a few comments. One thing that was interesting in the instructions it was stated that the primer cleans the surface of pipe and fittings. That is misleading. If dirt or otherwise contaminated, the primer could actually glue the contaminants to your parts. So,to get the best glue joints, make sure that your parts are clean and dry. This primer etches the surface of the piping and fittings to assure a proper glue joint. Just remember your fittings in particular are manufactured in an injection mold and lubricants may remain. I recomend that you lightly sand the parts with 240 grit sandpaper. Then prime according to instructions. After primer has dried, apply glue to both parts and quickly assemble, rotate slightly as pushing parts together. Remember the glue sets up very quickly so rotation must be as needed.
