Designline 6 in. x 6 in. Stainless Steel Square Shower Drain with Square Pattern Drain Cover in Matte Black

Our drain was installed with a newly built/renovated bathroom. I installed the shower plumbing myself so I know it was done correctly. I'm also a weld engineer and work in the nuclear industry and understand stainless steel very well. This drain was in its box and plastic wrap until the moment it was installed, the top grated plate remained in its plastic wrap until the grout had cured and it was installed. I opened the drain for maintenance tonight to find rust developing. Very upsetting.

As far as shower drains go, this is a nice one! It comes with a "key" for the removable top plate which allows easy access to the additional crud filter underneath the top plate. Looks fantastic, upscale and modern in my newly remodeled bathroom.

This square drain is VERY NICE, and I mean VERY NICE!!! It is very strong, made of stainless steel, heavy, also rust-resistant, so it will always maintain its good looks. When you handle it, it quickly becomes evident this is a quality drain, MEANT TO LAST, which I love. It is also very attractive, looks great. Although I realize this is a shower drain, I chose to use it for a different purpose. I will use it as a drain, only outdoors. I compared shower drains, and this drain is way superior to that plastic stuff that degrades over time outdoors (I have attached a picture as illustration of same). This drain costs more, but YOU GET A LOT MORE... I think it is worth every penny. I want to try using it outside under a gutter drain. This makes a perfect topper for a hole filled with stone. Its good looks also adds a touch of class to an otherwise functional task. I also love the black matte color as it matches my black shutter and black roof, coordinates with each. I realize that using it outdoors is not consistent with what the manufacturer planned, but I am thinking practically... I want a product that will serve my purpose, and have the longest life possible. Beneath the square grate, which is all metal, is all plastic, therefore, if put in the ground this plastic would be immersed in stone. As for the metal on the grate itself, it will be sitting on stone. Commercial drains are all metal; they survive, so I expect this drain to similarly fare VERY WELL with outdoor used. Using it outdoors may indeed shorten its life, I am not sure, but I want STRONG, DURABLE, also QUALITY, and these are qualities I have found in this drain, so I want to try it outdoors. The grate is also removable so you can easily get in there to clean it... which I will do each fall when I clean the gutters. I expect it to last, serve me well a good long time. It is a very, very nice drain, high quality! I am GLAD I FOUND IT!

It's really a nice looking drain, my wife and I like the square drain and the squares inside the grate design, it seems strong, stepping directly on it shouldn't be a problem, we like the color it's and flat black, the finish is very nice, materials seem durable, time will tell, directions are nice, it's got an O-ring that is tight the drain slips in side your existing drain pipe

This drain is a significant upgrade from the typical, smaller 4-inch drains. Two inches may not sound significant for drain inlets, but it makes a big difference when sloping tile floors to a drain. NOTE: This drain is specifically designed for showers with wet set tile floors over a waterproof membrane. It is not suitable for use with a one-piece shower pan. The drain also needs a companion piece—drain base-- that is installed in the subfloor and connected to the drain line. You need an Oatey Series 130 shower drain base that has a clamping ring for the membrane. The base can accommodate 2 and 3-inch PVC. The shower drain base is actually the key part of an installation and the cost is less than $10. Once the base is installed and the threaded adapter is screwed-in, the drain itself just slides into place prior to tiling. The threaded adapter has an O-ring seal. The drain frame is 6-inches square, with the actual grate a little smaller. The frame, grate and strainer are non-magnetic indicating that there is probably stainless steel under the matte black coating. Other grate designs are available including one that accepts tile inserts and one that is solid SS where water flows around its perimeter. It is important to know that the finished floor at the grate inlet is going to be at least 1-1/2 to 2-inches above the subfloor. This needs to be taken into account when planning and laying out the shower floor for proper slope of at least ¼-inch per foot. The drain assembly comes with an inlet grate and a hook to allow you to pull the grate out and access the strainer basket underneath. (Looking back, his would have really been useful with four females growing up in the house.) The product is made in…China.

Very high quality and well designed drain grate. The finish seems very very durable even in a wet enviornment such as a shower. The kit comes with a small tool that is used to pull the grate up to access the drain, but if you lost the tool a paperclip or something similar would probably work. Below the grate there is a strainer basket to collect hair etc. before it goes down the drain, it has a gasket around the rim and small holes in the bottom. Perfect to catch anything unwanted!

Very well made. This fits a tile shower. There is a base that is set in the tile. The drain pipe connection slides over it snugly. There is a small basket strainer that fits in the center. The basket has a rubber sealing ring help the flow stay in the basket and not go around it. There is a small hook included that is used to extract the basket for cleaning. The cover grate fits snugly as well.

Stylish and high quality, the strainer is wonderful, easy to install. As a 25 year experienced tile installer, I can say this is one of the best shower drain. Personally I prefer cast iron bases but the plastic one does the job. I have seen them before at clients homes, that's why I decided to use it in my own.

The appearance is outstanding as is the strength. Obviously you need the six inch square area neatly formed in the floor. Dimensions of 6x6 and proper depth for your application are important. The standard 2 inch threaded male connection worked nicely with the 2" female connection (this part is not included). Once those connections are made, the drain grate simply slides into your fittings with extreme precision. It is very well manufactured, and the debris cup which is included works nicely to catch debris and it very easy to remove and clean.
