The heavy gauge ABS drain with Stainless Steel Strainer by Oatey is well-made and it could be used inside a 3” pipe or over a 2” pipe. The top stainless steel strainer is 4” wide. The metal part is well-positioned in the ABS and locked tight. I plan to use this in my backyard patio area. I look forward to many years of service from this high-quality product.

This 3 inch ABS plastic universal drain with a stainless steel strainer has a very good design. It can work with either a 3 inch or 2 inch Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe. The bottom flange (see picture) can either fit in the 3 inch pipe or around the outside of 2 inch PVC pipe. This makes it very versatile! The stainless steel cover strainer is very solid so this would work well in any application where there would be weight on the drain, such as in a shower drain. I highly recommend it!

Our having a need for draining the rear yard that has many low locations in witch rain water accumulates. We need to install drains with strainers to drain the standing water on the patio and the rear yard. Wanting to have long lasting drain strainers made of stainless steel we selected Oatey ABS & PCV Drains with strong stainless steel strainers as our choice of drains for our project. Knowing that their general-purpose drains are constructed from durable plastic material and that the stainless steel strainer is attached with screws and are easily removable to provide access to clean out any clogs that may occur in the 2" PVC drain lines. We selected Oatey ABS & PCV drain to install in the yard and their ABS drain is the one because it has the ability to use 4" and 3" pipe connectors to reduce to the 1 1/2" PVC drain lines as you can see in the photo of the roughed in PVC drain pipes. ............................................................................................ Drain body is constructed from durable PVC plastic; Drain body can be solvent welded inside a 3 in. Sch. 40 pipe or over a 4 in. Sch. 40 pipe; Compatible with PVC pipes; For indoor and outdoor applications[ Screw-on stainless-steel strainer with a 4 in. Dia. is removable to provide easy access to the drain line (not included) for cleaning[ Snap-in design for easy installation

This ABS drain fits 2" or 3" pipes and we will be using it for our outside shower, our next project. It comes from Oatey, a company in Ohio but made in China. The Strainer is Stainless Steel, screw-tite and it made very well it seems to me. A strainer like this could also be used in patios, hardscapes, carports, etc. where there is slab construction.

This is for our outside shower where we clean the dogs and rinse off before and after using the pool. Really easy to install. Our tile contractor loves it and said he will only use this type in his future jobs. The drain pipe was already installed and we just needed to trim the pipe to size, followed the online instructions and one, two, three done!

Very easy to use. We replaced ours after redoing our shower stall and needed one that fit a 4 inch drain. This fits both a 3 and a 4 inch drain. I like that it's stainless steel which means it won't rust as some companies still make plumbing parts with galvanized steel which will rust. It's very easy to clear any clogs by just removing the two screws. I strongly suggest taping over the holes before attempting to remove the screws so it doesn't fall in.

This was just what I needed to replace the exterior vent cover for our sewer line. Measurements were spot on so I knew ahead of time it would fit perfectly, and it dressed up an otherwise ugly pipe coming out the side of our house. It easily fits over a 2" pipe or inside a 3" pipe.(we used inside), and the metal is stainless so it should stay nice and shiny for a long time.

This is a great drain with sufficient thickness of the material to sustain loads and freeze-warm up cycles. I like working with ABS because it offers more flexibility, doesn't age like PVC and requires less thickness of the material allowing me to combine with a little insulation to prevent condensation and sound. I've seen that ABS joints are also not as prone to cracking and generally the material is much more forgiving for plumbers' mistakes. The top strainer is fastened very good with a nut molded in the ABS material which is a nice touch and indicative of the Oatey's dedication to launching on the market only top quality products with absolutely no compromise in quality. Removal of the strainer takes a phillips screwdriver and a couple of minutes, screws are stainless as well. It is understatement to say it has steel strainer, it has polished stainless steel that is very hard, unlike all stainless steels that are normally very soft, this is pretty much kitchen knife grade material, yet it retains some flexibility to accommodate for proper load bearing without cracking. In terms of load bearing, installed it takes 3 sq in load of 350 lbs without bending at 70F ambient temp. Can get any better than that. And the ABS lip provides for more than enough surface area to sustain 2x that load. At this price it is just an unbeatable product on the market.

This drain is easy to deploy in a variety of settings. The body is made of tough ABS plastic. The hub cleverly adapts to 2-inch pipe (inside diameter) or 3-inch pipe (outside diameter). One readily can mate this inlet to a drain stub out as seen on photo 1. Moreover, the piping need not be ABS, as adaption to PVC can be made with Oatey transition cement. I found this drain useful for small flat-work areas like patio sections, small shed floors and carports. Do consider the tributary area - and place several in adjoining pavement flags if they are large. I also found its small diameter useful in landscape applications to drain low spots in contoured lawns. The stainless steel cover withstands service in all those areas. In most cases I'm using the lesser 2-inch pipe setup (See photo 2.) because I'm not intercepting any specific discharge - just accumulating local surface run off. Photos 3 and 4 show the generous proportions of the drain which lend it good durability. The inlet cover is easily removable for service (See photo 5.) but I always plumb a clean-out nearby so that such access is minimized. I recommend neatly duct taping the inlet before casting the drain in place or setting it in stone dust / pavers, gravel hardscape or soil / cement landscaping. Doing so prevents inadvertent clogging and makes peripheral sealing more effective if necessary. For those who have such amenities, I'm sure this is a workable solution for DIY (particularly outdoor) swimmers' showers, pet wash stations, garden produce washing / fish catch sinks, modest outdoor kitchens and the like.
