Replacing a shower drain, could be a challenge, however this Oatey AbS, was anything but, easy install directions, it has a round stainless steel strainer, an upgrade from what I removed. The insert comes in black, with enough pre-drilled holes to make installation easy. After running a fait amount of water, It had a good seal, drained well, I no longer have to have standing water after a shower.

Very sturdy material you can tell it will be very durable. The strainer is stainless steel and the drain part is black. This is meant to be used with tile base showers. The reversible clamping collar is secured with 4 stainless steel bolts into brass inserts. The round drain barrel accommodates 4-1/4 in. universal Snap-Tite strainers which you can purchase in a variety of different finishes. Overall this is a well constructed item.

I just received an Oatey ABS Shower Drain with Round Stainless Steel Strainer in Black. They make this in square also. I just prefer the round. Made out of ABS that will last a very long time. If you have not done any plumbing before, I would recommend using a professional to install. This product works best on new construction but will still work for old work.

Excellent shower drain for our stand up shower. I love that it's stainless steel so it doesn't rust. The fit was perfect for my drain and I like that You can just screw off the top vs unscrew it with two tiny screws which can fall down the drain when clearing a clog. The ABS material is very thick and I did not have to worry about it bending or breaking. The method of securing it is solid. It'll definitely last decades.

Wondering why the overall rating is 4 stars but the ease of installation and quality are 5 stars? It's because the manufacturer did not provide standard labeling, retail packaging or instructions for this promo item so it was a guess of whether the material was ABS, PVC or something else, and therefore it was not known what adhesive glue could be used. Having to go to the vendor's website for info when you are on a jobsite is a time-waster. But this is a well-engineered product once the specifics were known.

I got this drain for a shower unit, and once I opened it I really liked the construction of it. Some of the features that I liked are the bottom part of it is made of thick plastic that has a smooth inside finish so you don't have anything hanging up, the top is metal chromed. The threads where the metal meets the plastic are fluted like a tap to help for removal after a period of time from build up, and the threaded piece is removable in case the threads to get damaged. The top screen is held in with two screws for easy removal in case you need to run a snake in the drain, and it has a nice look to it.

The overall design and quality of construction was designed to last for years. The strainer barrel has 2" of threading for any desired adjustment depending on the height needed for your tile (or concrete) installations. The dimensions of this ABS Drain are as follows: Base 2 ½" wide, Blue Stainless steel Strainer 4 1/4" wide ; 6" Black Base, and overall 4" Tall. This product is VERY durable, and the reversible clamping collar is secured with 4 stainless steel bolts into brass inserts. I have included a photo showing these bolts. I would definitely recommend this to interested buyers.

Building a shower drain is never a simple easy task. But with the right parts and the right tools it can be made much easier and quicker. If you are building a shower drain connected to ABS pipe (they are not interchangeable) you need this shower drain built for ABS pipe. You can easily glue the drain onto your pipe and then glue the shower liner to the drain. The newer drains have an additional flange that is tightened down with 4 bolts. Then you can set the height of your shower floor regardless of what you use (pan, tile, stone etc) by the height you screw down the final drain strainer. Quality, strength and a lot of flexibility are here.
