stainless steel strainer removable?

Asked by liz September 27, 2020

Answers

Yes, it is. According to the FAQ: Q: How do you remove a Snap-Tite strainer? A: The easiest way to remove the strainer is to weave a string or small wire through two openings near the edge of the strainer and pull straight up. It is not recommended that you pry the corner up because it could damage the shower base surface. When you are ready to reinstall the strainer, simply line it up over the drain body and press down evenly.

Does this slip over the 2 inch pipe. Would it be a lot easier to install this on a shower over a concrete floor?

Answer

This mechanically attaches over 2" Sch. 40 DWV pipe & is designed for use with all preformed shower stall bases. The drain is fixed to the drain pipe from above the shower base, ideal for slab construction.

Should the 2” pipe be snug? I insert the pipe with little resistance but it falls back out

Asked by KW15642 November 26, 2019

Answer

The ribbed calking gasket goes around the end of your drain pipe (snugly) and the nut threads down from the top to make the mechanical compression connection. You may need to support your pipe from below until the connection is made but be aware that the calking gasket that comes with the drain is sized for 2" sch 40 DWV pipe. If you are using this on copper or cast iron then you will need to use a different calking gasket. Please reach out to Oatey Technical for any further assistance. 1-800-203-1155.

Used this to replace old one when replacing a shower pan. The solid brass version of this unit ths heavy and just feels superior to the PVC version. This thing will last the rest of my lifetime, not that I'm that old.
