Oatey Sure-Vent Air Admittance Valves

By eliminating the need for a branch vent, Oatey Sure-Vent Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) provide the ideal venting solution for island sinks, remote bathroom groups and remodel jobs. Sensitivity to pressure changes, combined with its ability to consistently open and close, is what distinguishes the Oatey Sure-Vent AAV from all others.

Why Use a Sure-Vent Air Admittance Valve?

Ensures Proper Drainage

Every fixture needs a trap and every trap needs a vent. To prevent sewer gases from being released in a home, a trap is required. A vent keeps the sewer and atmospheric pressures equalized allowing water to drain freely.

Eliminates Secondary Vent Pipes

Sure-Vent AAV's provide the ideal venting solution for island sinks, remote bathroom groups and remodeling jobs by eliminating the need to be connected directly into the stack vent.

More Economical

Sure-Vent AAV's are more economical than installing vent pipes in new construction because they reduce the added need for materials and labor.

Unmatched Performance

Zero Pressure

At zero pressure the Sure-Vent AAV is sealed, ready to react to pressure changes. The Sure-Vent AAV will not allow sewer gas to enter the structure.

Negative Pressure

When water is turned on, a pressure change of -0.01 psi (-0.25" H2O) will cause the Sure-Vent AAV to open, allowing airflow from the room through the protective screening, past the seal and into the DWV system as the arrows indicate. When the water is turned off and pressure equalized, the Sure-Vent AAV returns to the closed zero pressure position.

Positive Pressure

The Sure-Vent AAV seals at 0 psi and above indefinitely. The figure shows the Sure-Vent AAV in a sealed position blocking sewer gasses. When pressure subsides, the Sure-Vent AAV returns to the zero pressure position.

Q:Is this valve enough to vent a toilet?

    Answer This Question

A:  The product that you have inquired about is the wall box which fits into the wall cavity after the drywall has been cut out or before it is installed. The grill will screw onto this box in order to supply access to the AAV after installation and also go airflow that the AAV need to operate properly. The AAV itself is sold separate and you will need to purchase a 6DFU or 20DFU AAV to complete your installation, Both AAVs will work for your application of installing a toilet.

A:  This is only the enclosure with a white steel grill. No AAV is included and must be sized and purchased separately.

      by|Feb 6, 2021
      1 found this answer helpful

A:  No it is not, it is for a sink or smaller fixture.

      by|Feb 6, 2021

A:  You will have to check with your local building codes for the proper answer. Mostly though the answer will be no, this vent that goes with this system will not be adequate for the venting of a toilet.

A:  This will allow an air admittance valve that is more than enough to vent a toilet. Per Table 709.1 in the 2017 Ohio Plumbing code, the maximum number of drainage fixture units for a toilet (Private, Tank Flushing, 1.6 gpf) is 3 drainage fixture units and this product can accommodate an air admittance valve that can handle that load.

            Great way to vent plumbing
I have installed this Oatey Sure-Vent in two bathrooms. The one for the guest bathroom is actually vented in the garage (see attached picture). I have only 1 vent pipe going through the roof, which is why I love this product and the fact that I saved the cost of the extra pipe and vent boots, which are potential leak spots. I am installing 3 more Sure-Vents 1 for kitchen sink, one for wet-bar and one for utility sink.

A quick way to overcome the need for venting your plumbing! We purchased this for a project which had an issue with venting the drain line within code limits. This provided a quick solution for our needs. I will caution though to check with your local plumbing inspectors to see if allowed, some will not allow this type of venting in a residential setting.

When a drain line cannot be vented using conventional plumbing venting practices then a Studor Vent or similar Air Admittance Valve (AAV) may be used. This valve allow air into the drain line while not allowing sewer gas back into the open air. When such a valve has to be located in a wall bay it must remain accessible according to building code. That is where this wall box with grill faceplate comes in. This box, with 4 adjustable mounting tabs, can be securely mounted anywhere within a 16” OC wall cavity. The AAV is located inside this box and covered with the included attractive steel grill, very much looking like a standard HVAC register. The removable grill provides the required access to the AAV. Overall, a very neat and convenient method to correctly install a AAV when needed.

Sure I would recommend this product if the need should arise for someone requiring a vent when breaking through the top plate is not an option. Be sure when ordering you understand that the actual sure vent does not come with this kit as it does with other manufacturers. The wall box is hard plastic with the straps for installation, making things easy to adjust during the hassle free install. The grill in this kit is metal which makes it my go to choice when needing this set-up, most often is a bathroom remodel. Not spectacular but gets the job done effectively.

The box is similar in size to the Oatey washer outlet box hence, it is quite large but it is not exactly the same size. It would be nice if the two boxes were the same size, then they would match since you are most likely to use the both boxes in your application. Very nice!
