Answer

Hi, Maryam ~ It's worth a try, just cleaning the residue with the Old English. If that doesn't work, you may have to try a cleaner like 409, then quickly follow up with the Old English. If it's an unfinished wood picnic table, just sand lightly, then use the Old English. A lot of it depends on what the finish is on the table. If it's a very valuable piece, you may have to get it refinished. Eeks - sorry that happened!

Is this product safe for acoustic guitar finishes ?

Hi, David ~ I have to confess to using Old English a time or two on my old Martin acoustic guitar, but they make a product especially for guitars, that you can get at the music store, or online.

Do you have Old English Furniture Polish on hand?

Asked by Jenna July 13, 2020

Answer

Jenna, your question got forwarded to me, as one of the peer customers. However, it sounds like you're asking if Home Depot has Old English in stock - yes? While I can't answer specifically for each store, I have found Old English in stock every time I looked for it in the past two years. It's in the aisle with all the household cleaning supplies. As long as I'm not much help, nothing works better with Old English than Viva Soft Paper Towels - and no oily rags hanging around! Good luck!

After treating my furniture with Old English, and I allow it to dry can I apply a coat of Varathane?

Asked by Bugsy January 4, 2018

Answers

Ooh, Bugsy, I don't think I'd do that. The Verathane should give you the shiny surface you're after, and you don't want anything interfering with its ability to adhere. It might not hurt, either, but I don't think it's necessary.

I would say no, but would contact the manufacturer directly.

Will Old English remove water spots?

Asked by Bobby June 17, 2015

Old English removes most light spotting, but a bad water spot like you describe might need sanding and refinishing. Also, try rubbing some mayonnaise in.

Used this product on our stained-wood front door which had weathered due to the sun over the last 12-years as exhibited by the dull, white-film forming on it. "Old English" made it shine like new. The Door looks like it has been re-stained and varnished. So easy and GREAT! results. Just can't get over how good it looks! Also used this product on our new cedar mailbox post and it looks like it has been varnished....looks beautiful! A little Old English goes a long way.

Best product ever for wooden handles of Work Tools, shovels, hoes, rakes. No, the handles are Not Slippery with bare hands or gloved hands. Yes, the handles do last longer, as the wood does not dry out and crack. Yes, the handle look good, as the warm glow of the Oil soaks in, and leaves a warm glow of oiled wood.

I was very glad to see Home Depot carried this product when my grocery store stopped stocking it. Couldn't manage without it. Of course, I use it on all my wood furniture, but also on picture frames, wood cabinets, Japanese kokeshi dolls and lacquerware, even on my outside teak table before company comes. I like to apply it with Viva soft paper towels.

These floors had been cleaned at lease 5 times. What to do with them was the question? They looked so bad, I decided to try Old English on them and all I can say is wow, wow , wow. Take a look at the before and after pictures. Never thought it would work so well.
