Questions & Answers

The 6 I just got from the store are closer to 7 5/8 x 7 5/8 x 15.5. Is that how they are supposed to be?

The store label and my receipt say 8x8x16... I'm not a mason, is it common for them to be so short? Or is it done this way to force customers to by more then they need? I need 24 inches high, not 23...
Asked by: GG
the manufactured size is 7.625 by 7.625 by 15 .625 to give a finished size of 8x8x16 with the mortar.

Can I use these to surround a fire pit?

Asked by: Sean
I'd suggest a refractory brick or cement be used to protect and insulate the concrete blocks. Back in the day, I worked at a steel mill. The masons periodically broke out and replaced the worn linings of the mills molten steel ladles. Even the specific bricks and cements used to hold the 2,500F steel needed replaced as they wore. The internet says a wood fire reaches 1,111F when burning.
