You definitely need two trees to bear fruit. A second tree can be a different apple variety but must be an apple. You need the different trees to pollinate each other.

So far so good
We purchased a honey crisp and a fuji in April. It took about 3 weeks for anything to start to grow. The fuji did nothing. We now have returned the fuji and have a new one coming. The return was easy. We are excited to see blooms and leaves coming.

I got a twig
I ordered two bare root apple trees, the honeycrisp seemed to be pruned back within an inch of it's life. Still showing no signs of life.

half dead tree.
Shipped on the 6 of April and receved on the 10 of April. Planted the tree per instructions and it took until May 19 before any growth started. Unfortunatley the tree stem that was over 2 feet tall was dead as nothing grew from it. Something started at the base of the tree so i’m not sure if that will grow honey crisp apples this was my 3rd tree i have purchased from then. I don’t know what to think about this tree or if any fruit will ever grow from it. It wiil take years to find out.

DO NOT BUY. I purchased 2 bare root apple trees and my wife also purchased 2 bare root apple trees for me from Home Depot. I planted them in late spring of 2020. I spaced the trees properly, prepared the soil, and watered them faithfully. They did not take root, or produce any new growth during the 2020 season. I left them in the ground and hoped that during spring 2021 there would be new growth, but none of the 4 trees had any growth above the graft root. I then called Home Depot, spent an hour on the phone with a number of people and they did NOT stand by the trees they delivered. They would not replace the dead trees they delivered.

My bare root arrived on March 5th 2021 and planted it in a pot same day, a month later April 5th the entire top had leaves and bloomed white flowers too it’s just unbelievable that’s it’s blooming after a month. So far it’s healthy I feed it once a week and it’s next to a dwarf orange tree that was already blooming I don’t know if that has anything to do with it, overall am pretty happy with how it’s behaving.
