Product Overview

  • Short growing season puts Gravenstein in extra high demand
  • For over 350 years Gravenstein flavor has stood the test of time
  • Among the largest apple trees at maturity
The flavor of Gravenstein makes it best used for cooking, baking, and cider-pressing mainly due to its low sugar content and large fruit size. It's also a great choice due to the massive number of apples produced by a single Gravenstein tree. In fact Gravenstein is 1 of the largest-growing apple trees cultivated today, giving it the status of a shade tree as well. If you're looking for the maximum number of apples grown on a single tree then Gravenstein is likely your best option.
  • Gravenstein is 1 of the best choices for homemade applesauce and cider due to its extra-large fruit and mildly sweet flavor
  • 1 of the largest cultivated apple trees
  • 1 of the heaviest-producing apple cultivars due to its massive height and spread
  • Gravenstein is 1 of the oldest apples still cultivated widely today, its use has been noted as far back as the year-1669
  • Gravenstein is an exclusive seasonal variety, typically only available while being harvested, planting your own tree gives you all the gravenstein apples you could ever wish for

hi, are these trees dormant? how are they kept? if i plant them now would they produce leaves into winter?
Asked by: natasha
Bare root trees are shipped dormant. They are field grown and harvested once dormant. Then root pruned and packaged for shipping. I have only ever received bare root trees in the winter so you can plant them prior to the temperature in your area warming enough for them to start growing.
