Product Overview

Superb perennial with blue-gray, lance-shaped, aromatic foliage and, all summer long, a profusion of purple stems holding violet-purple flowers. Compact, 18 in. tall and wide plants perform best when planted in full sun in a moist, well drained soil. Use in containers, as a foundation plant or in the perennial border; yet, regardless of the location, site this attractive plant where the butterflies and hummingbirds can be enjoyed. Pairs nicely with achilleas, sedum and other salvia.
  • Plant is NOT the edible herb variety, use for ornamental purposes only
  • 1997 Perennial Plant Association Plant of the Year
  • Long-lasting cut flower
  • Violet purple blooms all summer
  • Ships in a 6 in. tall & wide (1-gal.) black nursery pot
  • May repeat bloom throughout summer but needs regular moisture, in the form of irrigation or rainfall, to encourage flower formation
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 3 to 9, when grown in other zones, special care requirements will be needed to protect the plant from extremely hot or cold conditions
  • We're sorry, but due to state regulations, this plant cannot ship to California
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 18 in. away from other plants or structures
  • This plant is a perennial, which means each it will re-grow each year. Be aware that in the coldest regions, it may die back to the ground each winter; and, while it may look dead during this season, it is simply conserving its energy so it can grow again in Spring

Questions & Answers

1Questions2Answers

Does it need a lot of sun? And is sage a spice?

Yes, it does need at least 5 or more hours of sun a day. Yes, there is a plant called a sage, but this is not the herb. I wanted a meadow sage as they attract butterflies. I have an annual blue salvia and I love it! It is easy to care for and is beautiful. Just dead head the old flowers and it will continue to thrive.

It is hard for me to say how my perennial blue salvia will do at this time. When I got the plant it looked pretty dead but I was told that is how they come. I planted, cut back the dead and watered. The plant is surviving and green. I think for the amount of money it is a bit on the small side. The reason I wouldn't recommend is that I would advise checking with a nursery in your area first. They may have what you want at the same price and at least the plant would probably be blooming and thriving when you purchased it.
