What time of year is best to plant these?

Asked by Sam June 28, 2019

Answer

Hi, thank you for your question. The 'Zagreb can be planted anytime the ground is not frozen, just be sure to provide plenty of water throughout the season, allowing the soil to dry out between irrigations, until the plant acclimates and becomes established.

Is this rabbit resistant?

Asked by Linda May 18, 2019
1
Answer

We don't have a lot of rabbits here, there are too many predators. However I have a solution I make up that keeps most animals away from plants. Mix 2 raw eggs, 3 tablespoons of hot sauce, and a quart of water. You have to mix it in a blender or with electric beaters or something like that to emulsify it well. Home Depot sells a wonderful sprayer in the garden department that is very reasonable and does a great job spraying the plants you don't want eaten. The solution will taste like hot sauce and the egg makes it stick to the plants. You only have to reapply it when it rains. Make sure you clean out the sprayer with hot water when done to remove the egg which would clog the apparatus. Hope this helps.

should the blooms be dead-headed after bloom to enjoy continuous reblooming each summer ?

Asked by Bob May 21, 2017

Answer

Hello, the 'Zagreb Coreopsis will rebloom each year, regardless of deadheading spent flowers. Plants can be sheared in mid to late summer to promote a fall rebloom and to prevent unwanted self seeding.

I had this beautiful plant at my old home--we moved--can't find this anywhere to plant at our new home--this plant is GREAT---my Granddaughter loved picking them--now I have 3 more Granddaughters since the move and can't buy them--I'm guessing they sell too fast--they also don't need much watering--AND they spread just Beautiful--full sun and Deer never ate them!! If you notice--I can't get them again this year--so sad!

Do you have to remove roots from soil for winter?

Asked by ZZZ May 7, 2016
1
Answer

Hello. No, it is not necessary to remove plant from ground prior to winter. It is a perennial that over winters outside.

How much area does 1 gallon of this plant cover and how many gallons will I need to cover an area of about 80 square feet?

Asked by drj99999 April 29, 2016
1
Answer

Hello, thank you for your inquiry. The 'Zagreb prefers sunny conditions and may fail to thrive in heavily shaded areas, such as those under mature trees. The plant prefers poor soil with good drainage so it should not be necessary to enrich the topsoil. Water only when very dry as too much soil moisture will cause root rot. Right now, is the perfect time to plant! To determine the quantity, position the plants 12" away from each other.

How late does Moonbeam Coreopsis bloom?

Asked by Sandy April 25, 2016
1
Answer

Hello, Sandy. The 'Zagreb usually blooms from early summer to late summer, sometimes extending its blossoming period to first frost.

How tall does it get and does it tolerate sun and shade?

Asked by cellis44 April 24, 2016
1
Answer

Hello, thank you for your question. The 'Zagreb grows about 12" tall by 12" wide, it does not spread. The flowers are about 1 1/2"in diameter. The plant thrives in full sun and would grow poorly, if at all, in shaded conditions.

The plant arrived in a box. Thought for sure it would be dead but, it was actually in great condition. We planted it immediately and it’s doing very well. It’s a nice addition to our flower garden.

I love these plants. I've enjoyed them in my garden for several. Every year they come back bigger, fuller and more beautiful. I think they are even a great substitute for a bush. In fact I'm contemplating getting some more to border my driveway.

The plants were alive and healthy, but very meager. Not samples I would have bought if I’d seen them first.
