Product Overview

A hardy evergreen perennial herb with oval shaped, woolly grayish leaves that are textured and highly aromatic when crushed, lending an earthy freshness to meat and poultry cuisines. Spikes of bluish mauve purple flowers appear in mid Summer. No herb garden is complete without Sage, which is also the most perfect plant for cottage gardens, when the flowers become a magnet for bees and butterflies. Pick leaves throughout the year. Harvest flowers as they appear in Summer. This is a large plant ready for immediate harvesting.
  • Attractive addition to herb gardens as well as ornamental borders
  • Excellent for seasoning meat and poultry dishes
  • Strongly flavored perennial herb
  • Likes sun and dry soils
  • Ships in a 5.5 in. tall and wide standard nursery pot
  • Prefers a warm, dry, well drained, non-acidic site
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 4 to 10, when grown in other zones, special care requirements will be required
  • Best irrigation technique is to apply water directly on ground above roots to avoid any water droplets on leaves

Questions & Answers

1Questions1Answers

How do I plant and take care of sage. When does it get flowers

Answer

Sage prefers a warm sunny site, although it does not enjoy extreme heat. It is not particular about soil, except to be well-drained. Sage is very drought tolerant and does not like sitting in wet soil. The leaves will get mildew if they're allowed to sit damp so water infrequently & plant where the sun or a breeze will dry the dampness. Sage blooms in mid-summer but you are really growing this pant for its leaves, which can be harvested at any time. Sage is a perennial in USDA zones 5-9.

From Florida to 25° Virginia slightly more than 48 hours. Plants were much larger than I expected and soil was still plenty moist. The boxes were laid on their sides because there were no markings that it was a live plant or This Side Up. After removing the plant from the box, there was no soil in the bottom of the box. A day out of the box and they perked back up and are well worth the money! Very pleased with Home Depot Customer Service also after a shipping issue with one plant of 3. It arrived the next day looking wilted and burned on the edges. Gave it a trim after unboxing and put it in a sunny window and it is looking like it never left Florida! Very happy with this purchase in every possible way.
