What is included in the box? Do I have to buy oil separately?
Asked by: SH
There was a tiny bottle of chain lubricant in my carton, and I presume it's still being included, but you may as well buy some more at the same time you purchase the saw.

Does this chainsaw come with a protective cover for over the saw?

Asked by: Dl
Yes, for the bar/chain, not the body.

What is the limitation of this chainsaw? I am new to chainsaws and need it to mainly cut up fallen thick pine trees in my yard. Thanks.

Asked by: Dl
How thick? Under 12", sure. More than 12 " and less than 16", it will still work but you're getting close to the limit. . More than 16" would really be pushing it and would require cutting from both sides. IMO, a gas powered saw is much better for anything over 10".

One storm damaged tree cut up and one more to go. Just marginally less capable than my gas powered CS, this made up for it in ease of use, and while far from silent, a lot quieter than gas powered. Remounting the bar and chain after priming the bar/chain oiler was a bit of a nuisance, but it didn't slow me more than a couple of minutes. Wear gloves. The chain was sharp. One tip the manual didn't mention: Don't overfill the bar/chain oil chamber. It can't pump if the breather in the cap is blocked with oil.

Having owned only gas chainsaws in the past, I admit to a bit of skepticism before purchasing this corded chainsaw. I don't do enough regular cutting to store smelly fuel mix and put up with deafening whine, so I thought about either a higher amp battery saw or a corded electric. My hesitancy soon vanished, and I realized the corded saw was the right choice. With no effort, I felled a 30-ft tree and flushed several small stumps on my property. The only problem was removing and clearing small branches which makes the chain jump the bar. It happened twice before I learned my lesson: use loppers or a hand pruning saw for the small stuff. The 15-amp Oregon has plenty of torque and speed and just enough heft to handle almost any average-joe job within 100 feet of an outlet without having to muscle the tool. If you respect this saw for what it is, it will serve you well...and it's self-sharpening--nice feature.

Weakness: Vines, thin branches (thinner than a pencil) slip into the chain drive and derail the chain.Solution: Clear away vines and thin branches before you cut. On logs, trunks, and large branches this chainsaw bites them like a doughnut! Excellent performance. Excellent price. Self-sharpening will save many hours with a file. Buy it, use it, love it!

Used this saw to create knife blade slots with a jig attachment I created for construction project for a client. This saw was unbelievably sharp, and has performed well. I have not yet used this saw for cutting tree branches or logs, but am sure it will perform as well as any other electric chainsaw.

But after taking it out of the box and using it to cut a small tree in my yard, the chain continuously began to slip. I re-read the manual thinking I may have missed something crucial... but no, I performed the necessary tasks.

A home owner cannot go wrong. After I was finished, I cleaned it up, emptied the oil and put it up. No worries about... will it start next time! Self sharpening is amazing!

So I've been apprehensive about "downgrading" from a gas saw to an electric one. I cut up enough wood every year to where I'm right on the borderline between needing the gas or the electric. So since 2-stroke engines and myself don't get along very well, I decided to go with this electric model. First of all, I read many of the reviews and had some hesitations due to the chain slipping. I will say that the chain stretched quite a bit over the course of the first 20-30 cuts or so. I made sure to check frequently, and I tightened it as necessary. After the break-in period, it seems to hold its tension pretty well. The chain did slip one time, but I that was when a larger cut pinched the bottom of the chain as it was falling. I cut up about a total of two cords worth of wood, in various thickness, from twigs to about 6-7 inch diameter logs. It seems to be plenty powerful enough to do what I need it to do, but certainly gas models can do more. I like the easy tool-less tensioner, and the teeth are just as sharp as when I took it out of the box. Everything I cut was pine, so time will tell when I have to deal with a harder wood. I haven't yet used the built in sharpener, as I haven't needed it. Some cons; Mobility can be an issue, but that should be obvious with it being electric. The cord pigtail that it has won't accept all types of cords, depending on the size of the extension cord's female end. This could be a concern because you should be using at least a 14 AWG cord, if not 12 AWG. Also, the amount of bar and chain oil they give you in the box doesn't even fill the reservoir, so plan on purchasing some. All in all, a good, powerful saw. At $100, it is well worth the value.
