Is this a broadcast formula or mound treatment? Those 2 little containers won’t come close to destroying all the mounds in my yard. 2.5 acres.

Yest there will not be any smell and it will be safe around your pets in the garage as long as you screw the lid on tight.

Orthene left in a tightly closed container in the garage has NOT created an odor.

LindaB71, keep people and pets out of the treated area until the dust has settled. It's best to keep pets away from the mound until the ants have died.

This stuff works fast, keep dogs away for a couple of hours and it should be gone.

Two or three days , our dog was curious while I was applying it. So I went outside with him to make sure he stayed out of the stuff whenever he had to use the bathroom. Then I knocked the mounds down with a rake. By that time most of the powder was gone . I wonder if the ants carry it into the mound because this happened without any rain.

Customers say that the Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer is highly effective in quickly eliminating fire ant mounds, often within 24 hours of application. Many users appreciate its ease of use, as it requires no watering and can be applied directly to the mounds. However, the product is noted for its strong odor, which some find unpleasant. While most customers report successful results, a few mention that ants may return after a short period, indicating that ongoing treatment may be necessary.

Burned the grass all around and did NOT kill the ants. Have used before with good results and no grass-killing, but this cannister completely burned the grass slightly wider than the product actually touched. And did absolutely nothing to the ants.

I’ve found this product to be fairly effective for treating fire ant mounds, particularly when applying granular yard treatment as well. What bothers me most about this product is that the put 12 oz of product in a jar that could hold a quart or more.
