Acephate is a systemic insect control that kills by contact meaning the insect must come in contact with the product It affects the insect nervous system. Orthene Fire Ant Killer is a powder which the worker fire ants will walk through, tracking the powder into and throughout the mound to the queen. When I apply Orthene as directed the product blocks the nest entrance at the center of the mound. Should I poke through the product to reopen the entrance or leave the product alone and let the ants dig through the product to reopen the entrance?

Ants made a nest in and around my flowering plants in my garden. Can I put ortho ant killer around these plants
Ortho Orthene Fireant Killer1 can be used around flowers, trees and shrubs. The product can be used around and up to the base of the plant, but is not registered for use on plants and should not touch the foliage of plants. If the product is accidentally applied to plants, wash them off with water.
Safe for pets to be arounf
When used according to label instructions, Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 poses no unreasonable health risks. At a minimum do not allow pets such as cats and dogs and other non-grazing pets into treated area until dust from applying has settled. For best results keep pets such as cats and dogs and other non-grazing pets out of application area for up to 24 hours so that the mound is not disturbed. This allows the ants to track the powder into the mound to effectively kill the ants in the mound, including the queen.
Can you use this in the kitchen around food or utensils?

Once in this position, the cap will stop turning counterclockwise. Then, squeeze the cap only in the spots that say "squeeze hard" using the slightly raised grip spots on the lower portion of the cap. Squeezing only in these two positions will change the shape of the cap to more of an elongated oval, allowing the locking tab on the cap to bypass the locking tab on the container.
