Thermafiber Fire and Sound Guard Plus mineral wool insulation is designed to provide excellent thermal performance, noise control and fire resistance in residential and light commercial construction applications. It is the first hybrid product that offers thermal, sound and fire protection for both interior and exterior walls -no need for 2 products to insulate the home. These products are non-combustible, moisture-resistant, noncorrosive, nondeteriorating and mold-resistant. (Tested per ASTM C1338, Standard Test Method for Determining Fungi Resistance of Insulation Materials and Facings, ASTM International).

Fire Resistant: Mineral wool is naturally fire resistant
Thermal Comfort: Contributes to energy efficiency with R-values that won't decrease as the insulation ages
Mold Resistant: Resists mold, fungi and is vermin-resistant due to its being an inorganic material - tested per ASTM C1338
Non-Combustible: Mineral wool is non-combustible per ASTM E136.
Sound Control: Helps control noise between floors, through walls and from outdoors

A: Hello Nick, Owens Corning Manufactures the Thermafiber Fire and Sound Guard Plus in both a regular binder containing Formaldehyde and a Formaldehyde Free version. Thermafiber Formaldehyde Free products are not available for the retail market. The regular binder Fire and Sound Guard Plus is manufactured with a binder that contains formaldehyde as an ingredient. During the manufacturing process, however, these products are cured at a very high temperature and virtually all of the binder formaldehyde is eliminated. The amount of formaldehyde in the finished product is less than 0.01% by weight. At this low level, and because we oven cure the product during manufacture, out-gassing of formaldehyde is extremely low and is not a significant source of formaldehyde when installed in a home or building. Way better, for me, working with this material vs. the pink stuff. Very easy to install as cutting to size with the knife, buy the knife, makes fitting into tricky spots super easy. Seems to hold in heat nicely in the rooms I've remodeled with this stuff. Wear a mask - the particles kicked up while installing are not awesome on lungs. Also, not itchy like other materials but wearing gloves is highly recommended.
