Questions & Answers

will this cover the protruding parts of the stair when closed?

I have about 5" of stair protruding above attic floor when the stair is closed. Because the insulator is triangular I wonder whether it has enough space to contain this part without lifting up
Asked by: attictom
The problem is not the height. This person has the same type of stairs I do, the stairs are not self contained within the opening when shut, it extends past the opening by a couple feet in the length direction, not the height. So the question is will this product accommodate the length direction? Thanks

Could this be used to cover an attic fan?

Asked by: Willie
If your fan is smaller than the size of the tent, I don't see why you couldn't use it for that purpose.

The width of the tent is 2.5" wider than my opening but the length is the same. Will it still work?

will this work on an older staircase that uses counterweights?
Asked by: maggie
If nothing protrudes up into your attic when your attic stairs are closed, this will work fine. If you have a counter weight cable that extends to a rafter then this tent won't work well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy as pie to install, just make sure you get 4 sheets of insulation for the base. I hemmed and hawed over a way to take care of the awful draft that would creep around my attic door and render my house freezlng at night. I looked around at various caps and was confused by the measurements necessary and the tribulations necessary to custom fit them. Not for me. I am a single girl and I just want it fixed, now. This thing was SUPER easy to install. I just looked at pictures on the box and followed the pictures. I didn't have insulation surrounding my door, I had plywood floors, so when I bought this item I also bought 4 pieces of R30 insulation. Laid them in a square over the floor around the opening. Then opened the pup tent and just put it on top. I immediately felt a difference. It was like a thermal barrier. no cold comes down, no heat goes up. It is just a simple seal. And it cost me 37.00 Said 47.00 at the store, but the clerk met my request to meet the advertised price on Online. So that was easy.

I read reviews how it sinks down and collapses once it's installed. Well, it's true it does. And also the arms on the sides of the Attic Stairs, and the Steps themselves tear the Insulation when retracting the stairway. The next day I was ready to return it. So, I went up into the Attic to take it down. But, I noticed it was doing a good job on the attic draft. So I thought I had to find a way to make it work. I went back into Home Depot and got three sticks of PEX Pipe, 1/2" x 5 foot(or close to it). I spent just over 5 dollars for the 3 pieces of pipe. I cut about one foot off of each pipe and BOWED them in a half circle. I put a nail on each side of the Roof Truss, not the Stairway Frame. About 12" from one end of the stair opening, and 12" from the other end of the opening. And I put a nail on each side in the center. I put the pipe over each nail to hold the them in place. Now it stays up, and pushes the insulation away from the stairway arms and folding stairs. I wish Owens Corning would supply 3 Spring Straps to hold the insulation in place. But, at least I got to keep this product, because it does a great job.

So my attic door does not close all of the way and a bad draft would come into the house. Once i added the insulator tent, the draft was gone! Well worth the money. One thing to keep in mind, the tent sits on top of he ledge. So there may still be a little air coming in. However this is a great product!

Poor instructions (only what’s on the outside of the box), but easy to work with. Better if the edges were closed in (no exposed fiberglass), and flaps extending from each edge (to better seal, and accommodate a slightly oversized opening).
