Owens Corning FOAMULAR NGX insulation offers all the physical properties and ease-of-use you expect from Owens Corning FOAMULAR insulation with industry-leading sustainability.

Highlights

  • Insulation Application: basement and crawl space walls, under slabs, attics, cavity walls and insulating sheathing
  • Strong, lightweight pink foam panels don't require special tools
  • Excellent energy efficiency in the form of a high R-5 per inch. R means the resistance to heat flow, the higher the value, the greater the insulation power. This insulation must be installed properly to get the marked R-value. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. If a manufacturer's fact sheet is not provided with the material shipment, request this and review it carefully. The U.S.FTC requires the R-value of home insulation to be measured at 75ºF mean temperature. R-value claims should always be compared at the same mean temperature
  • Low water absorption potential, delivering outstanding R-value retention in the presence of water
  • XPS with a limited lifetime warranty has a minimum 90% of R-value for the life of the product. See actual warranty for complete details, limitations and requirements
  • Manufactured with a blowing agent that delivers a greater than 80% reduction in global warming potential as compared to legacy FOAMULAR(R) XPS Insulation
  • Listed in the Energy Star Seals and Insulates program
  • Tested by a third party certification body to ensure product performance and Code acceptance
  • GREENGUARD Certified products are certified to GREENGUARD standards for low chemical emissions into indoor air during product usage
  • Wide range of compressive strengths - up to 100 psi - to handle heavy loads
  • Completely eliminates use of HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) 134a
  • FOAMULAR NGX is available in two edge configurations: Square Edge - designed to fit flush next to adjoining boards; Scored Square Edge - comes with 3 factory scores, so that you can take a 4' sheet, break it in two and have two, 2' wide sheets (middle score), or you can break it into three 16" wide pieces by snapping at the left and right score
  • FOAMULAR NGX 150 and 250 are available in various thicknesses and R-values, the difference is the compressive strength. FOAMULAR 150 has a compressive strength of 15 psi and FOAMULAR 250 is 25 psi
  • When using FOAMULAR NGX, always verify the moisture vapor flow and dew point characteristics of the wall system, please check your local building codes for vapor retarder/barrier information
  • FOAMULAR NGX is not rated for STC (sound transmission) and does not have any soundproofing properties. Owens Corning fiberglass batts and rolls are great options for acoustic applications
  • FOAMULAR NGX cannot be left exposed and will need to be covered by a 15-minute thermal barrier such as drywall
  • If being used for crafts, acrylic or latex based paints can be used with FOAMULAR NGX products
  • If you're looking to insulate your garage door, owens corning garage door insulation Kit is an easy, fast and affordable way to keep your garage warm in winter and cool in the summer

Would I have to prepare the foam board in any way to use it as the "floor" (5'long x 2'wide) of a miniature display for board safety or other reasons? The total weight that would on top of it would be approximately 20 lbs interspersed on the board.

Can the product be used between ceiling joists in a crawlspace? And can it be layered over with non-paper covered fiberglass insulation?
        ByDec 26, 2024
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Owens Corning Foamular NGX Insulation is combustible and must be covered by a 15 minute thermal barrier in most crawl space applications. There are a few exceptions, please see section 6.5 of the Evaluation Report at the link below to determine if your crawl space qualifies. https://dcpd6wotaa0mb.cloudfront.net/mdms/dms/EIS/10019986/CC_UL_Code_Report.pdf?v=1430799545000. The Foamular is not sized to fit between joist and it is labor intensive and there is typically waste when installed between joist. For this application fiberglass batts are recommended. Thank you for your inquiry!

In my attic I have insulation that is faced on the heated side. Can these be played over the top of the existing insulation or will that cause condensation because of two vapor barriers? Also, can this be walked on in that situation?
          ByDec 23, 2024
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

Hello Kcdewie, Foamular can only be used in an attic space when meeting conditions outlined in the UL ER8811 report. However, Fiberglass insulation with a Kraft-facing and the Foamular insulation board act as vapor retarders. Having two vapor retarders within an assembly can trap moisture. Compressing fiberglass insulation at any time can decrease the R-value. We would not recommend the Foamular insulation board to be installed in an attic and then walked on, while it is a rigid board it may not support the weight and could lead to safety concerns. Thank you for your inquiry.

My husband was told to use this to prevent a drafty window from letting too much cold air in the bedroom during winter. It would be used on the inside of the bedroom window and only covered by the shutters. Is this safe?

            Answer This Question

Hello D2024, Due to the heat generating potential of placing Foamular NGX behind glass, we recommend not placing Foamular NGX in windows. Also, Foamular NGX is a combustible product and needs to be covered by a 15-minute thermal barrier such as 1/2" drywall. Thank you for your inquiry.

Would this work for under a hot tub? Or would it squish down
              ByDec 15, 2024
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Hello toddm, The Foamular cannot be used directly under the hot tub, pressure points that can compress the Foamular. Once compressed it will not fully recover. You will also need to confirm if the 25 psi would be adequate for use under the hot tub. Thank you for your inquiry!

I used this board to insulate my garage door and it worked well. It was about an 1/2 inch thicker than the door but I just trimmed the edges down to tuck under the frame.
