Q:When is unfaced fiberglass insulation used?

        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Hello Jose, When a facing is provided it acts as a vapor retarder. The need and placement of a vapor retarder is based on local building codes. Some locations where unfaced may be used is if adding additional insulation to an assembly, on crawl space walls, on interior walls when the insulation is being used for acoustics. Thank you for your inquiry!

          R-30 Unfaced
I used this insulation in the attic and it has improved the heating efficiency in my home. The only issue I had was that some of the rolls appeared to be thinner on the ends.

Excellent insulation that is easy to handle and does the job very well
Bought this insulation for the walls and ceiling in the 16' x 24' workshop I was building in my back yard. It was easy to cut, easy to handle and easy to install. The best thing is that it provides excellent insulation against heat and cold. After the structure was completed, I can maintain a comfortable temperature with just a small air conditioner and a small heater and I live in the desert where temperatures range from 32 degrees to over 115 degrees. I am very pleased with this product.

          Easy to use and install
Used this insulation for the walls and ceiling in my back yard workshop. Since I live in the desert, I wanted the maximum insulation possible and this R-30 does the job nicely. It cuts easily with a utility knife & straight edge and does not have the handling problem of fiberglass. At 23" wide and 6" thick, it gets the job done quickly and easily. One roll covers about 3 sections between studs 8 feet high.

The insulation came well packaged and was easy to roll out in my attic. Home Depot was able to order into the store, this wider 23"in insulation that's hard to find. when I went to the store to pick it up it was a breeze the guys brought it out on a forklift and pallet and put it in my truck and trailer. I really appreciate that. Home Depot #1 in my book.

I ordered 2 rolls at first. They was exactly what I wanted. It was 9.5 inches thick. I had split the roll to fit in the ceiling and walls (6 inches and 3.5 inches) and I used the paper that it's wrapped in to make strips to hold it in ceiling. So I ordered 20 more rolls. I saved tons of money by doing it that way. I have no complaints on the insulation. It's doing its job. Insulating.

No such thing as too much insulation in an old home. I pulled 1st floor ceiling s down and insulated between floors. Cutting out drafts and helping both heat and ac to be more efficent/stable. Always look at cost per Sq ft for best value.

Great product as far as insulation goes! Had to replace some older insulation that got wet above our foundation wall in the basement due to a pipe elbow joint separating after freezing and then thawing. Not 100% sure but it seems to produce less "dust" than other brands I've purchased in the past.
