R-Value Insulation Chart

Now use the R-value table to determine the recommended R-value you need.

Insulation Calculator

The insulation estimator helps you determine how much insulation is needed to cover the total square footage of your attic, floor and walls.

Faced

Face insulation uses kraft paper vapor barrier to control moisture transmission between walls and floors. Check your local building code for requirements.

Unfaced

Unfaced insulation does not have a vapor barrier; used over existing insulation in the attic or where moisture control is not needed.

Rolls

Continuous rolls are easy to transport and can be cut to length; great for large areas.

Batts

Come in pre-cut lengths for faster installation and each package contains more square feet than rolls; ideal for framed cavities.

What is R-Value?

The R-value for insulation measures how well insulation materials can resist heat - the higher the R-value, the greater the insulation performance.

Hi, I need to cover 3,050 square feet of ceiling, how many bags do I need?
Asked by: Pabloylucy
There seems to be 64 square feet per bag. Since there are 8 bags, that is a total of 8 x 64 = 512 sq. ft in the 8-bag package. To determine the number of packages you need, we compute 3,050/512 = 5.96 or realistically rounded to the nearest unit, you will need a total of 6 packages (that each contain 8 bags).

How many bags of this insulation would I require to cover 1740 sq ft of attic space?

How many bags of this insulation would I require to cover 1740 sq ft of attic space?
Asked by: Lilian
Each pallet covers about 512 sq ft. So you will need a minimum of 3 pallets (~1500 sq ft.). I would caution you on buying the 4th pallet. I purchased 3 pallets and had about 1/2 pallet leftover and when I tried to return the 1/2 pallet, I could NOT. I was told that the pricing was per unit (1 pallet), therefore, I would need 8 bags (1 pallet) to get a full refund.

Actual Depth?

General description says these are designed to fit 2X10 rafters, yet the product specifications say the material is 10.25" depth. Given that the actual depth on our 2X10's is only 9.25" in some cases, how will this insulation work, and still leave air space for our soffit to ridge-vent cavity?
Asked by: AllMyFault
relaxed depth is 8 inches
