Proper ventilation reduces heat and moisture buildup that can lead to ice damming and roof deterioration. Helps air flow through the attic to manage temperature and moisture.

Why Ventilate?

Without proper ventilation, excessive heat and moisture can get trapped in the attic, causing damage to your home.

im no roofer, can this be installed over my metal ridge vent?

Asked by aaron September 30, 2018

Answers

No, but you could put it over the peak of the roof PRIOR to installing your actual metal roof, then put your metal ridge over that as if it wasn't even there. Why? Because this adds a layer of insect intrusion barrier. Can also staple a thin weed block type fabric or plastic screening over your opening before putting anything on to achieve the same result.

It works great
Let me say this, the product does not create moisture or let water in the attic space if it is installed correctly. I have used this product many times in the past and I've never had an issue with leaks. When installed properly, it vents the attic space completely.

It is hot in Arizona and my attic needed more ventilation. When I installed new shingles, I installed Ridge Cat. It was easy and I believe that it will help my electric bill.

Creating moisture
Its just one of the worst possible components for the roof. Im doing repair right now , and tonns of moisture and rotted plywood , rusted nails, leak in badroom and in the siding undereave . Its all happend becouse of structure of this vent. First of all nails that will go thru staying right in those little tunnels inside for exhaust air/condensate , so they getting wet and rusted then mash is barely breathing which collecting the condensate on top of the roof (in attic) and streaming all this collected water down on rufters and plywoof . So far its number one worst product for the roof on the market , from my personal opinion .

Response from OwensCorningDec 19, 2018
Hello Alex, We’re sorry you’ve had a bad experience with the RidgeCat vent. The product is specifically designed and tested to withstand wind driven rain and provide ventilation of 15 sq. in. per linear foot. There are many factors on the roof that can lead to the problems you have experienced. However, if the product is not performing as you believe it should, you can file a claim with the Owens Corning warranty department and they can work to identify what is causing the issue with the product. Thank you for your review.

This product was very easy to use & install. Nails for use in a nail gun were included with the product; they are welded to a copper wire, so they were not useful for the hand nailing that I chose to do on my roof. The directions were adequate, but on-line videos helped. This product has appeared to help cool the interior of my unheated garage as compared to before when there was no vent in the garage roof at all. I would buy this again and I recommend into others.
