Customer Reviews

Kill A Watt EZ Meter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 105.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from well worth every penny i have several of them This meter is wonderful. I previously had an earlier model from the same company, and the kWh tracking feature would reset with any power loss. This one has a battery. It also has a VA meter in addition to the watts meter. With my older model I was struggling to understand why a 20A breaker kept tripping with only 1780 watts consumption when it should be fine until 2400 watts, but I learned that watts arent the whole story. Watts are the power used and what the power company bills you for. Volt-Amps is a term used basically for what i like to think of as “maximum instantaneous watts used” so an older appliance or cheap one might have a power factor of 0.7 meaning that if it really only uses 70 watts of power, the circuit needs to be designed (breaker, wire gauge, switches, receptacles, etc. ) assuming 100 VA because even though its averaging 70 watts, it reaches 100 instantaneous watts at a certain point 60 times per second during the AC cycle. Sorry, huge tangent. Anyways this thing pays for itself quickly being able to measure actual consumption on your appliances and devices and knowing when youre wasting money

I bought this product about 1 year ago to see what my electrical usage was for my 50 inch plasma TV. Needless to say, plasma TV's use a lot of electricity verses the new LED TV's. Therefore I was able to convince my wife into getting a new 60 inch TV for the living room. So the Kill A Watt EZ Meter paid for itself in the electricity I saved with the new TV. I'm happy, and my wife is happy that I'm not complaining about the electric usage because I've used it on other electrical appliances around the house. This product is very useful if used correctly. The display is a little small, but what do you want for a product that is under $30.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very handy for your budget and generator I enjoy using this device around the house since I have received it. The manual is easy to follow and I quickly set my rate to 11 cents per kWh, which is what I pay. Once the device is plugged in, you get a reading quickly. It averages out as the device (like a fridge) runs then stops. You can easily scroll through the hourly, daily, monthly and yearly costs. If I charged my phone continuously for a year, it would cost $6.57 as seen in the photo. Other readings include Hz, watts and amps. All are important if you use a generator. I have a 2000 watt generator and can tell what my appliances, such as my fridge, draw so I know what I can plug in. Hz is important as well for sensitive electronics such as phones and laptops. My outlets and inverter generator read around 60 hz, where it should be. I plan to get a lot of use out of this device and recommend it if you are curious about cost, especially and extra fridge or TV. One downside is that the device is a little big so it won't fit well on a power strip.

Just plug in the appliance into it and see how much that appliance is costing you. Using this I was able to determine one portable heater was costing us twice as much as the other, even though the heater was advertised as being cheaper to run with the same BTUs. I took the most cost expensive heater back and replaced it with the other kind. What I like most is once you set the cost rate per KWH from your bill you don't have to keep resetting it everytime you unplug the device. It shows you how much your appliance cost hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly. If you want to save on your electric bill, this is well worth buying. It has paid for itself in one month of electricity.

Does the calculation for you for hourly, daily, monthly, yearly power cost which is why you buy this. There are other meters that surprisingly don't have this feature. It also shows the voltage, watts, amps, etc. Some of the display units are so tiny you need a magnifying glass. Make sure you have a short 3 pronged extension cord.

It fit its purpose for resizing or changing out old high consumption items (fridge, lights, etc.) Also extends the use of my battery bank because of the changes I incorporated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will pay for itself. I have so many electronic components that have me wondering how much it is costing me to operate and this meter has given me all the answers! For the past couple of months I have been testing pretty much everything in my house that is plugged in to 110 to see where my money is going when paying my electric bill and have discovered some major surprises. I understand electronics very well and though I had a good understanding of what, in my house, was using the most electricity and this meter provided all of the answers I needed. I would recommend this product to everyone if you are interested in being better educated on what to do to reduce energy consumption.
