Once repaired can you drive screws through the epoxy to affix drywall or backer board to the repaired area?

Yes. The manufacturer recommends you make SURE to first drill a pilot hole of appropriate size for your fastener.

I have a window where the exterior wood near the glass pane is rotting. Is this right product to fix/repair the rotted wood near that adjoins the window pane OR is there some other product that would be better suited? Thanks for any feedback!

The rotted wood kit is perfect for restoring the damaged window. Harden the soft wood with PC-Petrifier, then fill in the missing wood with PC-Woody or PC-Lumber.

Deck rail wood rot repair. See photos

Doing some spring upkeep around the house. My deck railing, wood attached to composite, has rot at 2 joints. See photos. The rot extends less than 12 inches up the rails. It appears this was not treated wood, as I was told when it was built.I don't have the tools to cut and replace the rail. Local handyman estimates are $250 and up to repair. The up is a budget buster.I am looking for a fix that I can afford and do myself. Is there a sealant and filler compound I can use to repair this extent of damage. Suggestions welcome. Thanks,TGWOH

This is a good product and does what it says. My experience is that it is great at filling in holes, and I am not sure you can use it for joints other than helping cosmetically. Note that the product dries really hard and it is a mixed epoxy.

I am going to restore a footlocker I brough back from Vietnam in 1972. Which product would you recommend, thePC Rotted Woodw Repair Kit or Woody Wood Epoxy paste? Also, will this contract with the wood itself? Thanks.

PC Woody and PC Lumber (in this product) work fine for damage from wood rot (exposure to moisture). But I've never tried it on bullet holes or frag damage, so you're on your own for those.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy I'm using this to fix up some old and damaged decorative corbels and it's exactly what I needed. The products are very low odor, but definitely wear gloves (staining, some skin irritation). The petrifier does a good job penetrating and hardening rotted wood (not for structural support repairs--they have other products for that). The wood epoxy is easy to mix and apply. I haven't used the "lumber" they included, yet. There is a good amount of each product. My only complaint is having to buy this online--I don't understand why Home Depit doesn't carry this in the stores.

The kit contains everything needed for the advertised purpose, and its components perform quite as promised. Instructions are clear and complete. A usage tip, however: the mixed epoxy becomes somewhat "sticky" in application and thus becomes hard to smooth out to the desired shape and position. In the instructions it says (a bit vaguely) to use lacquer thinner or alcohol in the final smoothing operation. I found it very helpful to have a container of alcohol (I was afraid lacquer thinner might melt the plastic putty knife provided) on hand in which to dip the putty knife from time to time in the final step before letting the epoxy cure. As the instructions say, this saves a lot of sanding post-cure (I've done it both ways - with and without alcohol).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great for window restoration The original windows in my historic home had dry rot along the bottom edge and around some nail heads. The petrifier solution worked great to harden the wood. Then the Woody worked well to fill in the missing wood. Hints: Warm up the woody mixture and it is a little easier to work with. I used a hair dryer. The warmer the day the faster the mixtures cure. Windows look as good as new now!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product worked as advertised Used all 3 components of the kit: stabilizer, 2-part epoxy, and epoxy stick on a window and window sill that were badly rotted (as deeply as 3"). The product worked well and sanded to a nice finish when dry. The 2-part epoxy is a bit like peanut butter; has a tendency to stick to tools but also sticks well to the wood being filled. Will not doubt choose to use it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good all-in-one kit for small repair jobs I purchased this kit to repair a rotted hole in a window sill of my home. It contains everything I needed to make the repair and dries to a very hard, hopefully durable patch. The peanut butter consistency of the product is a little tricky to work with until you get the hang of it because it tends to stick to the putty knife and won't spread uniformly. So you need to dip the knife in some denatured alcohol frequently to smooth and shape the product once you fill the hole.

This worked very well on the base of a wooden porch column that had significant rot. Once the PC Woody mixture cured, it was extremely hard. Be sure to smooth out the "paste" as much as possible to reduce on sanding the next day. Definitely recommend.

I am very impressed with the thorough instructions and attention to detail in this kit. Here are some details about my experience. I had a deep hole so I made the repair in layers over the course of several days. 1. Instructions said to squire the PC Petrifier liquid into the hole, but it only came out drop by drop. At first I thought it was because the liquid was very viscous. It turns out that it was because the hole was partly plugged, corrected same with a toothpick. The manufacturer might want to include a round toothpick with the kit if this is common. 2. I needed to use the brush to apply PC Petrifier on two separate days. I wiped it thoroughly with a paper towel and set it aside, and on the second day it worked fine again with no cleaning solvent required. 3. I only received one wooden tongue depressor to scoop out the epoxy, so I used one side for part a and one side for part b. Again thoroughly wiping with a paper towel readied this for use the next day. 4. I put the mixing board in a zip lock sandwich bag so it would stay clean so I could use it without cleaning. 5. Mask the surrounding area with painters tape before starting for less clean up after.

I used the wood hardener and then the epoxy. The epoxy was a bit stiffer than I expected but that helped when I fixed a vertical portion of the frame. Lacquer thinner on putty knife helps get a smooth finish on top layer and it sanded beautifully. There is plenty of hardener and epoxy to do a moderately sized repair. Cleaned up easily with lacquer thinner. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from wood repair kit This product works very well for filling in rotted areas of wood. I had a very large area to repair. It did a great job. It does howevery take a lot longer to cure than what they say. If you have a lot of time this is the way to go. I repaired a whole window seal and upright strip. Very happy with results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth Trying Used to repair rotted outside wood on a sliding glass door. Directions are simple. Thicker would be nice as the door was vertical but then it would be very difficult to mix. Used second application to get things basically smooth. Sanded two days later and painted. I will be able to see the patch but it is unnoticed by others. Also used it to fill two screw holes that were too big for the screws. Re drilled and now the screws are in tight like new. Thought the hardening agent for left rotted wood most interesting. Everything looks good but it has only been one month.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome stuff I had rotted wood at the bottom of my door frame on my back door. I followed the directions and this stuff is awesome. Once it hardens, it's tougher than the rest of the wood. It blended well. It was a little tough to sand which is a good thing so you don't shave too much off at once. I had to use 60 grit and then 120 grit at the end. It painted well; can't even notice unless I point out where I used it. Will definitely use this again on any rotted wood. It was good for me since I wasn't sure how to replace the doorframe myself. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Product was good. A little like peanut butter to spread. Would be better if it was more like frosting. Had to use a little more on second day to fill in a few low spots but it hardens like a rock and did a great job on my rotting window. Would buy more if needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The kit provided three repair methods, which was helpful. I used this kit to repair a wood sign that had been exposed to many years of weather and wear. Having the option of all three repair methods allowed me to address the different aspects of damage. I recommend this kit for small, but complicated repair of damaged wood.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Since only time will determine effectiveness of product. . . Product works as instructed. However, information did not include warning that as wood repair material dries, it shrinks. It does absorb stain, but as a lighter shade than real surrounding wood. Information should provide coverage amount per ounce of product purchased.

Directions were clear and there are videos on-line that show how the product is used. The product seems to do what the company claims. If you're going to stain the piece of wood on which you use either of these products, be aware that the wood/epoxy will be so hard that it will be impermeable to all but solid color stains, which are pretty much like paint. Sand with rough sandpaper (#100) to help solid stain or paint stick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for Wood Rot Repair I've been working with wood for over 30 years and this product is awesome. I was preparing my house for painting and discovered some wood rot on a few window frames, located on the bottom sill. Follow the directions and this product is easy to work with. One tip is to use a template to support the epoxy until dry. Very easy to sand and finish after dry. AWESOME PRODUCT !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Results even better than expected! Worth the money! Repaired a rotted post in front of the house, about one third of the base was rotted away. Using a combination of the repair kit and cut to fit wooden shims, I was able to repair the post and give it stability. There was just enough epoxy to do the job.....I cannot be happier with the results!
