Would the sink genie function as a sand trap such that it would stop sand or dust and dirt debris from making it further into the system
SInkGenie will flow water through it like a P-Trap - so if the sand is suspended int he water it will flow with water - however if the flow is slow, the sand may settle down into the bottom chamber which you can open and clean. Thanks.
Could this be used as a hair trap for a salon bowl
You may use it as a hair trap - but do remember that it will clog with hair and you will need to constantly open and clean it out. Best to use this as a hair trap ahead of the actual P-Trap.....Thanks.
Would it work as a residential grease trap?
Hello Customer, This is a P-Trap replacement and is designed to function as P-Trap - the bottom canister is threaded and can easily be opened to clear build-up of debris/clogs. We cannot make a recommendation one way or the other but if you choose to use it as a grease trap, the grease will deposit in the canister and if not cleared out regularly before it fills up the canister, it will result in the clogging of the P-Trap. Can a waste tube be run directly from the trap unit to the wall inlet? My sink is small and too close to the wall to allow for the bend of a conventional p-trap.
Yes please - the bend is only provided to facilitate installation where the straight tube option doesn't work.
Does this have a screen built in for coarse sediment? I?d like to use it on a utility sink for my home brewery
It doesn’t have an inbuilt strainer but you could use a sock or some other simple strainer to attach to the inlet side of this to meet your application. It wouldn’t be code approved then but should do the job for you. You can then routinely open and clean out the strainer.
Can this be used to replace a shower trap?
It may be used but if there is no access to the trap then it isn’t any different than the regular trap. Furthermore this is a 1-1/2” trap while shower trap maybe 2” so this may not be compatible. Lastly this is a slip joint connection and most shower traps are glue joint so there will be some adapters need to make it work. Overall we don’t recommend it.
can sink genie be used with a dishwasher. would the dishwasher drain be on the tailpiece, before the sink genie.

If need be, can a auger be run through to clean out further down the line, or does it have to be removed first?
Hi Mike. Yes an auger can be used to clean through further down the line but the best way to do this would be to remove the SinkGENIE and directly run the auger through the SinkGENIE waste arm or the wall adapter. This will also eliminate the need for disassembling the pop-up drain to run the auger.
