Are longer screw adapters available? This worked great with my old tub drain, but because it was so old and rusted, the force of plunging the stopper down to chop hair broke it. I replaced it with a Danco universal fit drain, but now the stopper can't plunge all the way down. It seems like the center hole in the Danco drain is too deep, and the stopper can't fully plunge down before it is stopped by the flange at the top. So now it doesn't chop up hair very well, if at all.
Asked by: suzyqhomeowner
I was not sucesful installing this to my (rather old) tub drain, due to incompatibility of the fastening methods/hardware with my drain;;....at the time there did not appear to be any thing but what was provided with the device.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! (what I wish I had known) This product is horrible. It’s a great idea, but not well thought through. The white plastic is made to cut. Even with it fully open, there’s too much plastic and not enough space for water alone to drain properly. Don’t even consider adding hair. It barely does anything other than smash it through the slots. (maybe my hair is too stretchy??) Another issue: the black stopper. Straight out of the box, it hangs down, making it hard for water to slide under. Maybe it would work if you flipped it up? Final problem: There are 3 screws in the whole price and they all unscrew counter clockwise. So when I was finally fed up after one shower with water up to my calves, I tried to unscrew and only the chrome part came off. Then the top of the white part that exposed a brass screw. That’s when I decided to quit trying to fix it and just call the company in the morning. I left a message and received a call back from a guy who was basically like “just turn it clockwise”. When I explained what it looked like he kept saying that this doesn’t happen. I wasn’t upset and just explained that I wanted to remove the remaining pieces and that maybe I just got a faulty one. He insisted that it wasn’t faulty and that it must be something I did wrong. Sure, I could have done something wrong. He asked me to text him a picture and that he would call me right back. Still never heard back after 2 other calls to 1) see if the picture made it to him and 2) to explain how I finally was able to get it out. Save yourself the trouble of dealing with this and then spending your time writing a review to save other people from this disaster of a product. P. S. If you found this review because your “DrainEASY Bathtub stopper stuck” “DrainEASY bathtub stopper won’t unscrew all the way” etc. what you need to do is Break the seal and pull the white part out by twisting it clockwise. As I was finishing typing up this review, the guy called me back to say that whatever it was he couldn’t really help me because it was my fault whatever. I explained it finally came out and that I would be returning it. He gave me two options 1) return it 2) he would send me a different “better product” for free and I could throw this away since I broke it and “Home Depot won’t take it back since you broke it” (I easily reassembled it once it was out so I’m 100% getting my money back). We’ll see how this other product works...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Quite Universal Retrofit-Measure First Unfortunately, it was not possible to install the stopper in the tub drain as the tub drain was not included in the "replaces most standard" category, claimed by the product. The tapped opening in the "spider" was smaller than either of the two brass adapters provided, and the "webs" of the spider were too broad to permit the use of the "universal" adapter" provided. Check first that your tub drain "spider" is compatible with the included hardware to permit easy installation. The stopper assembly is of all-plastic construction ("chrome" plated plastic on the top of the stopper), and, while the lower portion (with the hair cutting fingers) appears to be of substantial construction, the upper stopper proper feels very lightweight and could possibly be cracked by stepping on it. If one has a compatible drain fitting and the intent is for a "quick fix" (maybe selling a house or vacating an apartment) this may be a viable option. For the long term other options should be pursued.

However the black washer cupped and it is useless as a stopper after a few days of usage. Also, while it catches hair, it still clogs and the up and down motion doesn't cut the hair strands that build up. Great idea, but doesn't deliver.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Did not fit old 1950’s tub. I really liked this and if it had the right size screw to fit tub drain it would have been wonderful.
