Q:The vent has a small circlar top bit that can be screwed and unscrewed. What exactly is the purpose of this? Does it close or open the vent? Should it be tightened all the way, or a little loose? It's unclear, as I know this is a fixed vent size.

A:  Not sure either but i unscrew my replacement and put it on my old one because the hole is large for mine but new one has a small hole.

    Q:What the operating pressure? What is the max pressure? Boilers should operate at 2psi but they can spikes above 5psi. Replacing all your valves because they break at 5 psi is a big problem.

    A:  Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, the maximum pressure for our valves could be between 6 and 9 depending upon the valve, which is within the standard range for most valves. The boiler spike and the duration of those spikes from malfunctioning boilers are another issue entirely and has nothing to do with the valve. Our valves are built for use under standard operating pressures though there is some tolerance built in.

      A:  Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Yes, Please tell them that the size of the holes vary in order as the valves move further and further away from the heat source which is typically in the basement.
