Questions & Answers

Do these shutters withstand a category 5 hurricane?

Do these shutters withstand a category 5 hurricane?
Asked by: Gugu
If you research this question you will see no straight answer. Good shutters installed properly will withstand CAT 5 winds. But to meet spec the best I could find is the panel must stop a 9lb piece of 2x4 from breaking the glass at 34 mph. I doubt any shingle will withstand 185 mph wind for long. Even a modern steel roof will fail if it is damaged. 185 mph winds and its likely your neighbors crumbling sub standard homes and buildings may hit your home damage it enough that the wind will then do the rest. My friend just sustained damage from Irma and all of damage was cause by the sub standard out building of the neiighbor behind him. We looked and there were no straps holding the trusses. It was my understand that this building was put up in the last decade. No building permit

How many panels do I need to cover a rough opening window 103" x wide by 63"
Asked by: Hogcaller1
The panels are 15in wide but are designed to overlap, so they only cover 12in, you will need 9 panels, that covers 108in leaving 2.5in overlap on either side

Asked by: Dave
Hi Dave, this item is currently out of stock online but is anticipated to be restocked in late October, which is subject to change. To clarify, this product is available in SOME stores, but not all stores carry every item advertised on Homedepot.com. I recommend reaching out to your local Home Depot store to inquire if they are able to restock this item.

I bought the 68inch panels then I drilled holes in panels at correct height and installed. I needed to add several washers to move panels out from trim piece because window molding was raised about 3/8" from trim. I used their special lags with wing nut threading and wing nuts. I wanted to prevent snow and ice from falling from roof onto abnormal snow pack build up and sliding into window on bottom floor. looks like a good solution, but I will re-check after spring thaw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Are Shutter Panels. What More Do You Want Big pieces of metal. Exactly as described. Arrived quickly. I don't get too excited about bent aluminum with holes in it. But, why not five stars because it's exactly as described. - Used to replace some that vanished. Drop-in fit.
