This is outstanding sealer/primer and odor-free as well. It covers very well and is much better than other primers I have used. I don't really care for paint that claims to be primer and paint in one. They have two different jobs. This paint is very thick (see photo) so I'm not sure if you can spray it or not. My guess is not. I primarily use this on bare wood and it penetrates and provides a smooth surface for my finish paint to cover. You can have it tinted to be a closer match to your final color but don't make it an exact match. You want to be able to see what you painted or not.

No real noticeable odor, PPG's GENERAL PURPOSE ZERO INTERIOR ACRYLIC LATEX PRIMER AND SEALER (WHITE) sealed newly tapped and Spackled walls beautifully. I need to hide old paint and for a better performing finish coat, I always prime the existing wall. This guarantees the finish coat will hide the old color and fill in any minor blemishes in the old finish. Low to no odor is a must when painting especially when people are nearby. Performed very well.

Quality formula. This PPG White Interior General Purpose Primer Zero VOC has all the environmental benefits as well as performance characteristics. It has a low odor and zero VOC, as well as being compliant for needed LEED points on projects. In addition to a primer that easily covers and adheres to different surfaces and colors, it also has sealing properties, which is a nice benefit as well. It dries rather quickly, allowing you to come back and do a final painting coat the same day.

This primer works really well. It has a slight odor when applying which quickly disappears, so it works fine for painting indoors around people and pets. It dries in one hour and is OK to recoat in four hours. It levels nicely, concealing any brush marks. I tested it on a variety of different surfaces and have posted before/after photos of each. The acid test was on a bathroom ceiling that had unsightly brown stains. I'm not sure if they were mildew or something else, but my wife sprayed it with bleach and painted. One coat of primer did a pretty good job of concealing them. On unpainted drywall I made a black mark and painted over it. The mark was still slightly visible even after two coats of primer. Similarly, I made a black mark on an unpainted stud. After one coat I can still see a little of the wood grain, knotholes and mark as shown in the picture. To test concealment over dark paint I primed over a dark colored wall I intend to repaint. When dry the primer had a slightly darker color cast due to the underlying paint, but one light beige finish coat on top of the primer came out exactly right. The lady at the paint desk said paint needs to be stirred every 3 days. It had been a couple of weeks since I got the primer so I went ahead and stirred it but didn't notice any separation or change, so I think I would have been fine to go ahead and paint without stirring.

PPG 1 gal. White Interior General Purpose Primer Zero VOC I need to use paints that are kind to my lungs, according to my Asthma doctor. But through experience I have found not all paints claiming to be VOC free, really are. I have a Blueair Friend which measures air quality, and lets me know what is really happening to the air I breath. It shows a blue color when the air is good, but a yellow color when it is not. The VOC measurement on my device stayed blue while we painted a test board near it. Also I personally could smell no paint odors or fumes that bothered me. The product was very smooth and it completely covered the darker color previously on the test board. Great product!

PPG general purpose primer has excellent hiding power! Testing hiding power on my previously dark-stained bay window frames and mudroom, the primer hid most of the dark color with only a few strokes of the brush! I'm pretty impressed so far! Zero. That's what they advertise as no VOC and they're right about the low odor - I did not smell anything while mixing up the primer in the bucket. I tested adhesion power on both shiny pre-varnished surface and flat pre-stained wood; the primer stuck to both surfaces pretty well. I saw brush marks; but that's just me doing a test swatch. With a roller brush, the hiding power of the primer will most likely cover up everything. The primer is a bit runny, not as thick as some other primers I've used, but the hiding power is excellent. I suppose that means more coverage! Highly recommended.

I recently had my roof replaced but unfortunately they did not do the best job. They came back and fixed it but ever since I have been staring at this obnoxious stain on my bathroom ceiling. I selected this product in hopes of using it to block the stain before repainting the ceiling. Needless to say, I’m extremely disappointed. Even after two coats, the stain is still very visible through the primer. Now I might be mistaken, but in the past, I have always used a primer where there was a stain before painting. I have usually had good results with this process. However, this product just does not do what I had expected it to do. I guess I’ll have to go back to my old standby primer in order to fix this problem. That will result in me having to paint the spot four times. Too much work for such a small area. I also tried this on a couple of pieces of board to see if I would get better results since there was no actual staining I was trying to cover. Even on the wood, the coverage just was not there. The only real positive thing I could find with this primer was zero VOC. There was absolutely no odor.

Every good paint job begins with good prep work. If you don't prep you will have issues down the road. Even paint that says right on the label " Primer in the paint " still may need a primer coat in instances where you are covering a vivid color or stains or that Purple Moisture resistant drywall. Why they make it purple I do not know but it takes extra coats to cover it up. So here is a good choice for getting a good base to build a good finish job on. It claims good adhesion good hiding ability zero VOC, Is fast to dry and can be used on many surfaces. It will do the job with no undue nonsense and/or trouble.

PPG, formerly sold under the Pittsburgh Paint label, has been making high quality coating for decades and this ZERO VOC acrylic primer is no exception. There is a growing trend among paint manufacturers to market a combination primer/paint product. I think the average homeowner must love it. However, I am a professional contractor and have not, and probably never will, use such a product especially for new unpainted drywall. After throughly vacuuming the walls to remove compounding dust, we then wipe down the surfaces with dampened cloths to remove any remaining residue. No paint or primer will securely stick to dusty surfaces. My next step is to apply a primer coat. When I saw this PPG ZERO VOC primer I wanted to give it a try and boy I was pleasantly pleased with its performance. It went on smoothly and evenly and covered very well. It not only seals the raw surfaces but also provides a suitable surface to apply the finish coat. An added benefit is the Zero VOCs. VOCs or volatile organic compounds are proported to be bad for environment and are largely responsible for the strong odor associated with wet paint. While I would not say this PPG primer is odorless, it certainly has much less of a paint smell than other primers I have used from the major manufacturers. If this primer ultimately performs as well my tried and true primers, I will begin using this as my standard primer especially where odors must be kept to a minimum.

I’m usually overwhelmed at Home Depot but the guy at the paint section was super helpful. I appreciated it a lot. I was suffering from allergies and not feeling like myself that day. I wish I would’ve gotten his name. :)
