Hi Joe, It can be either an alkyd oil or an acrylic oil – water based product. What you can get is very dependent on the state where you are purchasing the product.

Hi there, The transparent or semi-transparent might affect the glue holding the plywood together, We’d recommend using a solid instead.

Can this stain be used on a wood exterior mahogany door?

Can this stain be used on a wood exterior mahogany door?
Asked by: JLW
You can use the wood oil on that but you need to really work it in. Mahogany is hard wood and Is generally less porous. It may be tough to get to work into the wood. The CWF Hardwoods in the Flood line may be a product to look at for that.

3 gal. TPO-10 Mahogany Transparent Penetrating Wood Oil Exterior Stain is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good a finish for an older deck After the last three long harsh winters had effectively ruined our deck stain finish, both on the floor and railings, I chose this time to coat it with an oiled based stain with a lifetime guarantee. As our deck has the sun on it most of the day, I also liked the claims of UV protection both protecting the color and the wood. The area that I needed to cover is approx. 275 sq ft. The manufacture claims it covers over a thousand sq ft, I used almost all of the three gallons to cover the area with three coats using a roller and a brush and so a pretty close estimate of the coverage considering I completed 3 coats. Having picked a dry warm spell forecaster from our weather `experts` to last at least 3 days, I cleaned the deck with a good power washer with the water being mixed with a little detergent. Let it dry for a day and then applied one coat of the stain and sealant, The second day I applied the second coat and then much to my dismay, it rained for about 2 hours after completion (so much for our weather experts) Fearing the worst, I was relieved the next day to discover that although there were some slight discoloring of the deck, it wasn’t near as bad as I had anticipated. As soon as it was again dry, I applied the third coat (and yes after I had checked several weather stations first) and the finish was excellent. On the fourth day although it looked and felt okay to walk on, I erred on caution and left for another day to be sure it was safe to walk on. Overall the oil based mahogany stain covered the areas with surprising ease. I did use a different roller for each coat. I checked the finish after a couple of weeks and after an early spring snow fall and the whole deck still looked good. The pros I liked the best: Easy to apply, UV protector, penetrating oils, waterproofed and the lifetime guarantee

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great after application! We took on the project of staining our patio and decided to use the Mahogony color. Couple things to mention... 1. We found that on our patio a typical paint roller did not work that well. We went to homedepot and bout some 5 in. Lambswool Stain Applicator. HIGHLY suggest this product as it helps with any rods or support beams. Additionally, we got some stain specific paint brushes but found that any paint brush would work. If you decide to go ahead and use a paint roller, please remember stain is like water, and it goes everywhere unless you are very careful.. take your time! 2. PREPARATION IS EVERYTHING! Before staining, the day before, we lighlty power washed the deck, let it dry, then got some power wash cleaner and cleaned the deck, then power washed it again to get it really clean. We decided not to use a wood brightner, but that is a step you could have taken. 3. Make sure to wear clothes and shoes you don't care about when doing this project, also do not do it if the weather is above 90 degress because the stain mentions not too, and it would be very hot! Overall, we are so happy we did this, our patio looks great now! We think that this stain color was exactly what we were looking for. Our deck hadn't been taken care of for the past couple of years, so it was good to get some penetration wood oil for it!.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deck and fence stain Absolutely the best for decks, it absorbs into the wood, so you don't have cracking, peeling, sanding, etc. just a mild power wash each spring and good as new. I've used it on several type of wood to give a test: mahogany, oak and pine wood. Great results, it does stain darker than you might think and tends to darken with each coat. As the name implies, "Mahogany" has a reddish tint to it. I've only used the oil base product so I can't comment on the water based stain. Originally I found this stain when looking to stain wood deck next to the pool. It's been three years since the first staining and I've re-stained it once. The deck darkened a lot with the second coat of staining but I love the rich look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The stuff is great! Granted, this is my first time staining ever but I took a chance over the well known names over here. This stuff is fantastic. I had a 1 year old deck and some pressure treated parts and the guy used some non pressure treated parts on the rails. I know, so I needed to protect that... I did 2 coats on the whole thing and man did the 2nd coat finish it off perfectly. I bought the 3 gallon and an extra gallon and still have some left on a 400 sq ft deck. I used a brush in the whole thing. I don't know how long this stuff will last so I can comment on that but so far it's great. It rained last night and the water just sits right on the deck. The color is super dark and rich and hides a lot. This completely transformed my deck. I couldn't be happier with how it came out.

I've used acrylic stain/sealant combos in the past but have not been happy with how they've held up so this time I decided to try this oil stain/sealant. I can't speak to how this holds up because it was just applied a couple days ago. The mahogany stain looks very dark (almost chocolate brown) when applied but definitely lightens up when dry. Perfect once dry. I used deck pads for application. I'm very happy with application and coverage.
