Way down on the the web page it states the weight as 75 lbs and that seems about right as it is sturdy and well made.

Can I purchase a second platform and side rails for use as a shelf?

You would also need at least one additional leg set to hold the "side rails" aligned so that the platform part would not fall through. By the time you tried to order just the parts needed to use as a shelf you would be better off buying another complete Scaffold set. Unless you need a second Scaffold it would not be worth it. I have two Scaffold sets myself but do not use them in the manner you propose. I keep a three step folding stool with a folding tool platform for this purpose - it is higher off the ground, cheaper, and more useful for tools. Also more useful for climbing up on the Scaffolding itself. The larger Baker Scaffold can be equipped with a plastic shelf which hangs by itself from the legs (inside or outside the legs relative to the platform) and is very useful for tools. That is, unless your standing platform is at or near the max height for the legs - not so useful then due to the tools being at or near your feet.

It is nothing special. Chinese cheaply made. Mediocre quality and engineering. But does the job.

Decent scaffolding. It is narrow and as you would imagine seems to feel easy to flip sideways if it is set up higher. Could be helped if it had optional outrigger supports. Low height setting decent.
