Quality plant, well cared for in shipping
I had some reservations about ordering a plant online. Typically, I like to go to the store and examine all of the plants, ensuring I select one that looks healthy. I was pleasantly surprised, and impressed, when this plant arrived in the mail. The company does a good job at selecting healthy plants, and ensuring that they arrive to the customer that way. The box is appropriately labelled "live plant," with instructions to the post to keep it upright. The box has some holes in it to allow the plant to breathe. The plant is also protected in a cardboard structure (think coffee cups) with plenty of padding and empty space surrounding it.
When it arrived, the plant was healthy and green on all leaves. The soil was dry enough not to have caused a sludgy mess in the package, but not too try. I gave it some water, and waited about a week before transplanting it into the soil.
The plant was not crowded in the container. When it came time to transplanting, it was very easy because there weren't any roots popping through the drainage holes, as is common with vegetable plants. The plant was clearly well cared for without subjecting it to a pot that is much too small for it. I simply squeeze the bottom of the container and was able to use gravity to remove the plant.
I planted this cucumber plant next to a trellis. Cucumbers can either crawl along the ground, or crawl up a trellis if encouraged to do so. A trellis is a great way to maximize space, especially if you are sharing the bed with other plants. The plant came with instructions for planting, but only instructions for planting in hills on the ground--you don't need to hill cucumbers if you will be using a trellis.

Ordered package of 4 cucumber plants. Two were totally dead and two looked better but had brown coloring on the leaves of both. Each came in a great box which had a separate opening for each plant. All the plants suffered from severe dryness, The box/plants arrived last Friday evening and I opened the box right away. I am not returning any of the four plants as I have thrown the two dead plants in the trash after trying to revive them. The two remaining plants I have replanted in my yard after providing much water prior to planting. I am a person who hates to return any purchase but also the person who does not ever make another purchase from the company the latter came from. The object of this letter is to inform the company responsible and hopefully this concern will not occur with other customers such as myself. Very unhappy with this purchase and will go to a plant store to personally pick out my cucumbers. Sorry i don't have photos to share with you nor the camera needed for that purpose.

Proven Winners STRAIGHT EIGHT CUCUMBER, LIVE PLANT, VEGETABLE, 4.25 IN. GRANDE is a very hardy plant, arriving in tiptop condition. Well potted, strong growth, and beautifully potted in a way to enable it to be transplanted into the ground (in my case raised bed) very easily by pulling the stringed bag up out of the pot, removing the plant and this has settled into my soil, and the colder Maine air, well.

Looking forward for harvest time!
I have received other plants from Home Depot for testing and have never been disappointed. I most likely would not be buying vegetables via the mail but I am testing this. This is the 5th or 6th plant I have gotten via delivery and they have always arrived looking very healthy and strong. I only gave it 4 stars but that is only because I don't know it will look like in a month. I am certain that the plant will do great and will revise the rating to 5 stars!
