How does this model (AquaRain3 differ from the more expensive Pulse Retro?

We had this installed about 6 weeks ago. It is wonderful. We like it very much. The rainshower head is high and ours is touching the ceiling. We highly recommend it.

Sorry, it doesn’t look like there’s a modification. The flow from the shower head is like rain fall.

The Arc is 8" from the top of the arc to the bottom of the arm from the wall. The arm is 10 1/2" from the wall to the base of the Arc. The Arc is 10 1/4" from side to side (wide). Please note that this does not come with a regulator (the dial that turns on the water and is hot/cold). That is a separate piece and is expensive. We got ours from Kohler as we found out the day it was being installed so we had to rush out to a plumbing store to get it. Just thought you should know. As for the rainhat, it is wonderful and you can turn the knob partially to get water from both the rainhat and the showerhead. It looks real nice too. Enjoy!

The shower head "selection" valve is at the base of the gooseneck near the wall. It sticks out to one side and has a small handle on it. If yours is only operating the hand-held sprayer, that handle should be sticking straight up. Simply rotate that valve so the handle is in line with the gooseneck to the rain shower head and water will come from that. Or, split the difference and water will come from both heads (at a slightly lower pressure from each head).

I gave this shower system 5 stars because it looks great, but after it was installed I decided to upgrade to a 10 inch rain head, specifically the American Standard Spectra that I also give 5 stars and rightfully deserving of praise. The original wand on this Pulse system could have more pressure and I actually switched it out too, but only because I had a relatively new one on hand that the water savor was in the hose that it came with and not the wand, so by putting it on the Pulse hose, wallah, no water saver and much better pressure. I've learned that some have the water saver in the head and some the hose. Overall, it's a good system and I would recommend.

We remodeled our bathroom since my husband is now handicapped and needed a roll in shower. I decided to go with a little more expensive shower head and so I chose this one. It was perfect. The rain shower head is wonderful for me and the hand held shower head works great for my husband in a shower wheelchair. It is worth the extra money we were not planning on spending for a shower head. But glad we did.

We recently had a guest bathroom totally renovated. One contractor advised us to look for our fixtures at a local plumbing supply store. However, with prices close to $1,000, we decided to look to Home Depot for more affordable options. This product had exactly what I wanted -- a rain-head shower as well as a hand-held. Because it was so inexpensive, I was worried that it wouldn't have enough pressure. However, I was wrong. Not only does the rain-head work beautifully, but it also tilts and swivels if necessary. Additionally, the hand-held offers different settings. Based on this and how pretty it looks, I highly recommend this product.

We really wanted the Kauai III system, but the fact that the riser bar is also a water pipe and would have had to span from the original shower drop elbow location to the shower wall that sticks out about an inch from the drywall prevented that. However, other than the slanted vs. curvey shaping of the shower neck, the systems are fairly identical and the AquaRain made for an easier retrofit. This kit went into a tub/shower combo, so a tub spout with a pull-up diverter is used to send water to the shower heads. The hardware is very nicely finished, perfectly matching the brushed nickel Pulse trim kit and valve we installed, and it all feels very solid. Installing the shower neck is very easy, but you have to be sure to follow instructions and avoid twisting the neck extension. Installing the riser bar is also easy. The only modification I made was to add two 3/4-inch thick pine backer boards behind the shower wall at the mounting points to ensure they would not pull out should anyone use it as a grab bar. The rain shower head is nice, but a little small for our taste and due in part to its thickness tends to retain a bit of water and drop for some time after the shower is turned off. Ultimately I replaced it with a thinner, 12-inch rain shower head from another manufacturer which seems to drain itself more quickly. The handheld shower head, we like much more than we expected. For years we've favored the Delta In2ition handheld showers, which tend toward giving the impression of a higher volume of water but not necessary with great pressure. The Pulse handheld shower is a great compromise with five settings that are all useful and feel more forceful than the In2itions provided. The flexible fitting between the diverter connection and handheld shower proper is metal and very flexible. Unlike the plastic-coated ones common to many retrofit handhelds, there's no need to run a bunch of hot water through to soften it up and get it to hang properly. While not stated elsewhere, the shower head diverter (a valve in the upper shower neck) can be set for full rain, full handheld, or a mix of the two. The only real issue with it is that if left in the full rain or full handheld position, when the shower is turned off the system does not tend to fully drain back through the valve and tub spout. When this happens, it's possible for either shower head to drip for some time after the shower is off. I've gotten in the habit of setting the valve to the mid-way position, which allows both heads to drain quickly. The handheld shower holder on the riser bar is solid and allows the head to tilt as well as be positioned up and down along the length. We chose not to install the included soap dish, which is plastic and also useless to us. This gives a little more freedom to move the shower head lower as we get older and might need to make user of a shower seat. The riser bar itself feels very solid. The upper and lower mounting tubes feel a bit flimsy at first, but once mounted make for a very solid connection to the shower wall. They have O-rings installed where they meet the wall, as well as on the covers that are installed after it is mounted, so the whole thing is water-tight without having to use silicon sealant (as is the case with most grab bars, for example). All said, we are very pleased with this purchase. Combined with everything else we replaced in the upgrade it makes for a very sharp-looking setup that we are sure to enjoy for years.

Just what we wanted
Looks awesome in our new shower. Only downfall is not being able to turn on both shower heads at the same time.

Poorly designed shower system
This is a beautiful shower head system EXCEPT that the faucet to switch to the handheld shower is at the very top of the shower bar. I am 5’7” and have to stretch to reach it. I put this shower in to use as I age. I’m only going to get shorter. Disappointed. Will probably need to return.
