Product Details

MDF has many advantages over plank wood, particleboard or high density fiberboard. It's very smooth because the wood fibers used in its manufacture are uniform and fine. This makes it have low tear out, which means that when sawed, the end has a smooth cut instead of a jagged edge. This also means that a coat of primer and a couple of coats of paint take well, leaving an attractive, finished surface unlike other composite wood products.
  • MDF is appropriate for many applications because it is smooth, uniform and won't warp
  • Medium density fiberboard or MDF, is a composite wood product similar to particleboard; it's made out of wood waster fibers glued together with resin heat and pressure
  • Does not warp or split and does not expand and contract like nature
  • Oil-base or latex paints can be used when finishing MDF
  • Perfect for accent walls and other projects around the house or office
  • For interior use only
  • Actual dimensions of each board are 0.375 in. x 6.000 in. x 96 in.
  • Approximate coverage square foot per board (or 1 board) is 3.79 sq. ft.
  • Approximate coverage width per board (or 1 board) is 5.6875 in.
  • Approximate weight per piece (1): 6.5 lbs

Tricky to cut without breaking but should have expected needing it to be thin and it being MDF.

I cannot say enough good things about this product. Brought my shiplap dreams to life, Joanna Gaines would certainly approve. And it is so easy to install by yourself with how lightweight it is. Make sure to buy it while it's in stock, it seems to be a hot ticket item, and I understand why! I used it as accent walls above my (soon to be) kitchen cabinets and painted it with Behr's Whisper White Cabinetry Paint as I won't be using a backsplash - great combination!

Lightweight, very smooth finish, and easy to cut and work with. This makes for an easy installation. It is MDF so if handled roughly it is prone to chipping, particularly on the thinner rabbeted edges. That said, it is reasonably resilient. The thin dimension allows you to install it next to existing trim without removing the trim first. It will not be as prominent if you do not remove and install it on top of the shiplap but there is still enough protruding to look good. The material cuts easily and cleanly with an 80 tooth saw blade or jig saw so making adjustments around openings is easy. The panels fit together tightly and smoothly. If your first course is laid level then every course on top of it will be too. I highly recommend this as a cost effective and easy way to transform a room.

Overall, they worked out good, for a less expensive shiplap appearance. I recommend painting the backside also, before install in a humid location (Per Manufacturer's instructions, but who reads them?). Also, brush painting horizontally, gave me a much better finish appearance than rolling. If you are going to install vertically, buy some cheap paneling instead (you hoser).

This shiplap siding is well made and primed nicely ready for finish. I used a semi-gloss white on mine as that is what my wife wanted in the bedroom to offset the beige wall. Finish went on easily. We have 10' ceilings so I purchased 2 -10 packs of shiplap and used a 1x4 border to frame it. It worked out perfectly and we are thrilled with the look. The product shipped quickly and was well packed although there was one or two boards with dog eared corners. Fortunately I did not use to entire 8 ft so I trimmed the corners off and all was well. MDF is easy to work with but does throw lots of dust from sawing. Wear a mask to cut. I simply used my miter saw for the entire job. Put the boards up with fast bond adhesive and a brad nailer if needed. Most were fine with just the adhesive. Overall a good quality product that is easy to finish and install. Highly recommend.

Beaitiful and easy to work with
My husband and I installed this shiplap in our stairwell. We are total novices, but the shiplap went up really easily and the project turned out wonderfully. I would do it all again!

This product was very easy to use. The width and ease of installing made it a satisfying project. I used a circular saw on the backside of the plank and there was no splintering! Product was so much nicer than the "barn wood" planks that I had returned as very sub-par quality.
