The Automatic Vent Opener was designed to automatically control the temperature, humidity and provide additional ventilation when needed, making gardening easier. As the air inside the greenhouse warms, the vent gradually opens to allow the correct amount of air flow into the greenhouse and closes when the optimal temperature is reached. The vent arm was designed with a metal cylinder containing wax which expands when heated to push a piston, which raises the window, as the air gets warmer, then contracts as it cools, closing with the use of a spring and resetting the piston. All you need to do is to install it on your roof vent window and it automatically starts working. The Automatic Vent Opener operates without the use of electricity and works with all our Greenhouse models only.

AnswersI had 2 of these automatic and 2 manual for the last 3 years. As you probably guessed, the manual ones were both ripped off my greenhouse during a storm. The 2 automatic stayed in place during storms, even when they weren’t completely closed I have since switched to all 4 automatic. But yes, you can close them by turning the adjustment knob all the way

AnswersMy green house is made by Palram, so it bolted on easily. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on a Harbor Freight one. You may have to drill some holes to fasten it to.

AnswersYou should not have to open it manually, it is important to follow the instructions part of placing it in a refrigerator for it to cool. If it stays open 2" try adjusting the piston knob at the end of the piston. Hope this helps.

I purchased these Automatic vent openers for my 6X12 Palram Snap and grow greenhouse. I love them! They open and close everyday, and no need for batteries or electricity. You do have to use screws to install, which it comes with.

The instructions are lacking detail
I made a custom bracket to mount two of these in a Greenhouse from Harbor Freight. I could not find a photo of one of these mounted with the vent closed. The two I purchase worked per the instructions, but with the units at the halfway point on the adjustment and at 60 degrees the ends that are mounted to the frame and the vent are about 8 inches apart. I was not able to mount them without making the bracket. See the photo attached.
Pay attention to the initial preparation where the unit is placed in the fridge for a while. This allows the rod to free up from its initial stuck postion.

Just what I wanted!
Wanted a hobby greenhouse to keep the rodents from eating all my veggies. If you take the time to sort all the parts so you can find them before you begin, the greenhouse goes up quite easily, although it takes a good 8 hours with 2 people for this particular kit. It is very substantial when together and I just love it. Stays quite warm inside even on chilly nights. The shed is great for all my tools. Couldn't be happier.
