Will this awning stop rain water from leaking at bottom of my back door?

Asked by Kat December 1, 2020

Answer

There is a reason for everything. Have you found the cause of the water getting to the bottom of the back door? Asking such a question is like hearing a rumor that wearing Fluorescent yellow can make you lose weight! You need to fin the reason first for the leak! Is your door sealed properly? Is there a sprinkler near your back door? Is the back door in a lower part of your yard? Is the drainage correct for your back yard?

Can braces be aligned to standard stud width (ie. 16, 32, 48"...)?

Asked by Homesteader September 30, 2020

Answer

Spacing of the mounting holes for the braces is 38" which didn't align with existing studs in my home. I took the chance of using lag screws and only relying on the Hardi cement board siding and the wall sheathing which in my case was 3/4" thick. Awning as been attached to the house for 4 or 5 years now with no issues. We don't get much snow or wind here so i can't comment on how strong of a connection not going to framing is. The braces are not meant to be moved because there are holes in the curved part of the awning. I guess you could drill new holes in that part of the awning so you could put the braces at studs.

That is the moubting condition this awning is for. Wood! I don't know where you saw it was concrete mounting only! As I recall, all the mounting lag screws were included for a wooden mounting structure.

Door canopy
Easy installation and does the job. It looks great and adds to the look of our cottage. I will be removing it before the winter months because we won’t be around to remove the accumulation of snow. I want it to last for years.

Easy to install and lets in light
We recently got rid of the old aluminum awning that made our back porch feel very cramped and dark. This one was easy to install and lets in a lot of light.

Do not use in areas of snow
This item not designed for use in areas of snow. I need to remove. Or reinforce this. Can I get an extra bracket for the middle? Was easy to assemble and had all pieces.

Nice looking product easy to install, very nice not having the rain drip on me when I am unlocking my back door anymore. We have been wanting to put an awning over our back door for years but building one and shingling and wiring in a light we were looking at spending around $800-$1000 , this was under $200 and had it up in just couple hours with just a drill level and socket wrench. Great product.

For a particular situation, this is a good product. Color choices are limited. I wish a paintable frame was available. The color options available don't always fit with a home's exterior design.

Wow, what an improvement!
This was a great upgrade to our rear porch! I took down a Huge and Heavy and Ugly 80+ year old Awning and performed a super upgrade! The old one was hard to remove. I had to straighten the wall by using a different anchoring board. The assembly of the new Awning was pretty straight forward. The hardest part was cutting the plastic trim to fit. I looks great and the translucent effect is a great addition as it lets a lot more light into the rear room.

Good quality, simple install, attractive
I used this style of canopy on another door and I've been very pleased with it. It is fairly sturdy and if the structure it is attached to is sound it is quite strong. Last winter a very large maple branch fell right on it, and the outer bar was bent slightly, but the canopy didn't fall. My only issue with it (which I think would be true of any canopy) is that leaves, pollen, dust, etc., fall on it and it doesn't look as nice. That's one reason I went with the translucent panel this time.

Door Canopy White Powder Coated Aluminum Brackets.
Well made product from Israel. Easy to assemble except for the white plastic caps to fit over the heads of the fasteners. Looks OK without them. Overall we are pleased.
