Is it all weather

Asked by: Mimi
I'd say to just let them "weather" out in the open. I've bought benches new and also made replacement wood pieces out of oak. I leave them outside year round. I tried using urethane to protect the finish on both but it was hopeless trying to keep up with the maintenance so I just let the finish wear off. Now all the urethane has worn off and the wood is a nice gray, which I'm totally fine with. They will only keep looking new if you keep them indoors. Below are photos of two "weathered" benches.

Definitely not as overall sturdy or high a quality as a similar one I had purchased years ago. Two typical sized adults on this bench at the same time could be risky. Any good amount of lateral movement (sway) will probably snap the legs. Overall finish of the cast metal is good. The wood pieces are light-weight and barely "finished". The fit of the wood to the cast metal is just "okay". Two metal straps are supplied to link the seat boards together, however, the addition of a center support strap FROM THE SEAT BOARDS TO THE REAR of the back rest would be a big help in giving the seat part a more sturdy feel.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bench we ordered online I was very unhappy with the physical package it's self. No one ever knocked on our door to let us know the package arrived. The package was awful it was already ripped open from different sides. When we inspected the bench it had dents and scratches on different places. The bench does not hold a lot of weight capacity maybe 320 tops for two people sitting on the bench.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product is of very poor quality. The wood is of such poor quality, I decided to replace it with high-quality oak. After weeks of work, I was putting the final touches, when the front-left iron leg snapped off. Now, I’m trying to find a local welder, who can fix it. I have too much invested in it so far to scrap it. I may have to buy another one just to get a replacement leg. Now, I'm thinking of using it only for decoration, due to its questionable structural integrity.

This was an obvious manufacturing defect. It appeared that someone had tried to assemble the bench and botched the job. The wood camelback had twisted-off screws imbedded in the wood at every location. Also, this piece appeared to have been hammered on severely. One of the seat straps was missing. The styrofoam dunnage was broken up into small pieces, and the box was badly battered and taped. I returned the bench to the nearest Home Depot. The returns clerk was very courteous and efficient. She said that she was very embarrassed by her employer when she saw the bench. It appears to me that you have a quality assurance/management problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it Although this bench looks nice and appears fairly sturdy, there are a couple of major problems. The first time I ordered this, the seat back was already broken upon arrival, causing me to have to call Home Depot to return the item and re-order. The second bench arrived looking similarly worn from the shipping process (the box was all chewed up) but was actually intact. HOWEVER, we discovered at the end of putting it together that there are no holes in the seat slats where there need to be in order to screw down the seat support bars. We ended up having to drill them ourselves, and being that we are not that handy we managed to drill through the seat slats in two spots. Plus, at least three of the screws provided broke off in the wood when we were screwing them in! The seat looks nice, but the low quality of the hardware and instructions, and the fact that we now have brand new bench with holes in the seat, merit a low rating.
