These are specifically made for fire pit use.. I haven't heard of any exploding by using them near fire.. check your local store to see if they have them in stock as buying them individually can save you a lot.

Answer

The insert is typically only around 30 bucks so it wouldn't be much.. though I would call the store directly to see if they have these blocks in stock.. the price of the kit here is 3 times as much compared to buying the stones individually..

What is the total shipping weight?

i'd figure around 900 pounds.. large bricks (36 x 20lbs = 720lbs) small bricks (36 x 3.5lbs= 126lbs) fire pit insert (I doubt it weighs 10 pounds) so about 850 minimum total you'll save around $250 if you can buy individual bricks at the store...

The kit should include the screen and other accessories. The materials for this kit can usually be purchased at your local Home Depot but the colors that are available in stock vary from area to area. The Sierra Blend blocks may not be available on the shelf. If they are not available on the shelf then you will most likely have to order the kit in order to get that color.

Great looking fire pit and easy install
When it first arrived, the metal firepit insert was smashed and dented. I went to the local store and they fixed me up right there nice and fast. All the stone was in good shape (no broken pieces) Everything went together very easy. I added 2" of river stone inside the stone pit just because I put this on top of my newly made patio and I did not want the heat from the bottom of the fire pit bowl to crack any of my patio blocks. We have since had several fires in it and really love it. I also like the fact that it is modular, so in the future, if I wanted to add another row of stone to make it a little taller I could easily do that. Instead of buying a cover to protect the metal bowl from the rain and snow, I opted to just remove the bowl and put it in one of our deck boxes when not in use. This is also where the river rock is nice too , because it makes it still look like a finished fire pit.

Excellent Price and great value
Great product for the value, very easy to install and looks great. Have received many compliments and adds to any outdoor cook-outs. I would recommend this product to everyone. I bought on-line and had it delivered to the store and pick it up myself. Everything was there and in one piece.

This Firepit is an excellent doit yourself project.
The Firepit arrived in good condition except for the insert which was dented. However I contacted customer service and they are sending me a new one. Overall this purchase was easy to order and easy to assemble. It looks great and is welcome addition to my backyard. The quality of the stones is very good and the color is consistant throughout.

We love the look and feel of this fire pit!
We live on a creek and have been wanting a patio fire pit for many years. This pit is inexpensive, beautiful, easy to assemble, and wonderful to use.

I expected higher quality stone than what was shipped. The stones were in terrible shape and were crumbling and decayed. I ended up purchasing additional stones to make it look halfway decent. I also expected a higher quality of metal pit. I am very disappointed in this purchase and the price was outrageous for what I received. I am a regular shopper at Home Depot but this was a major disappointment. For this price, you should have added a rain cover and the construction adhesive (and better quality materials).

great but buy individually if you can
the pit looks beautiful but we bought individually to save a few hundred dollars.. the main bricks you'll need 12 of them per row for a total of 36.. they run $3.18 each in the store right now. The mini bricks you'll need an equal number to the large.. they run $0.68 each.. that's about $140 for the bricks.. then figure about 60 bucks for the pit insert and you're at around $200 vs. $462 for the kit.. main blocks weigh around 20 pounds each (750 pounds) mini blocks weigh 3.5 pounds each (126 pounds) so if you have a truck it's a given you can haul under 900 pounds.. even in a car i'd make the extra trip or two to save over $250...

Ordered online. Kit arrived but was short 2 of the mini bricks - returned to Home Depot store and they only stock the grey stones and was told that they would have to order an entire pallet of bricks just to get me the 2 missing ones. I now have 2 grey bricks mixed in with the Sierra Blend and am not satisfied with the lack of recourse options.

Save money
Fire pit is great! It took my husband & I 20 minutes to build it. However, save yourself lots of money & buy it individually, not as a "kit." Buy the rumblestone pavestone trap & mini bricks (12 of each for each level you want-36 total for 10" pit 48 for 14" pit) & 35" fire pit. I ordered it online for in-store pick up & they had it ready for me & helped load it. Spray rustoleum heat pain on it annually & rust won't be an issue.
