I have a small pitch to my roof top deck 4" to 24' feet. Can these posts be used for this deck? In other words- are the connectors connect only at 90 degrees, or they can allow for +3/-3 degrees difference?
Asked by: NewFaucet
Yes. I would probably use wood shims (available at any hardware store) on the low side to make the posts perfectly vertical... but that's just a personal preference. Your pitch is so slight it's probably not needed.

Is the dimension of the post itself 4in.x4in., or is the post actually 2in.x2in. with a 4in.x4in. base?
Asked by: billbezzant
The latter. Base is 4x4, post is 2x2. Enjoy cutting lots of aluminum :)

Post Installation

Your installation shows installing the post onto a wood deck. My deck floor is composite boards. I'll be able to install 2 screws into wood floor joists but the other 2 screws will go into the composite floor boards. Will these screws be enough to hold them or do I need to use bolts in these positions? Thanks, Bob
Asked by: Bob
I would use bolts as I don't feel the posts would pass any legal / safety inspections with only 2 screws.

Customer Reviews

2 in. x 2 in. x 42 in. White Aluminum Mid Post is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Do-it-yourself Aluminum Railing I used the Peak Aluminum on my deck rebuild (capped composite decking) for a virtually maintenence free deck. Very easy to work with. Top and bottom rails cut easily with a high TPI saw blade made for nonferrous metals. However, I would not recommend cutting the picket spacers using the same blade. The spacers are too short (3 7/8") and several times the scrap end was caught by the blade and went flying. Dangerous situation! When installing the posts, make sure that the supplied 3" lag bolts have something substantial in which to screw. In my installation, two of the lag bolts screwed into the outside joist/face board. For the other two screws, I nailed a 2 x 8 between the joists, horizontally. In my installation, I used a combination of 4', 6' and 8' railing sections. In reading the installation instructions, it states that the widest allowable railing sections are 6'. I called the company and found out the 8' railing sections were being discontinued, but I found enough at a local store to complete the job. I basically did 55 linear feet of railing for about $1300. Much less expensive than pre-assembled aluminum railing sections.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peak Aluminum Fencing I am always cautious of boxed construction materials. This Peak Fencing is a pleasant experience. All of the components were properly machined and the powder coating was perfect. No scratches and no damage. I recommend the following to make your project perfect. Have an accurate plan and stick to the plan. Don't cut any materials until a trial view has been completed. Don't get in a hurry and most of all apply old school knowhow, accurate measurements and newer saw blades. Have a flat file as well as a rat tail to remove any burrs. This Peak Fence will pay dividends in compliments, appearance and added safety.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Choice As a contractor this product was easy to install, sturdy and nicely detailed. It is a good alternative to having a fabricator custom build the railing. A decent low budget solution. A bit more labor than pre-built panels but easy enough. One caution - don't lose any screws it doesn't come with any extras. Best to have it delivered to store to pick up at your convenience. Had to block out a two hour window and they showed up with a 40' semi for a 90 lb. package. The driver was very courteous, professional and made it within the two hour window.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The product was amazing and was VERY easy to install.... The product was amazing and was VERY easy to install. We rented a hammer drill and literally had 22 feet of railing installed in 2 hours. It was awesome. Very slick and professional looking design. The only frustrating thing was cutting the spacers. We used all 6 feet of the railing and still had to cut spacers. It shouldn't be that difficult if you didn't have to cut the original railing.

Well thought out construction and easy to install if you follow the directions. I chose the 6" glass panels for my railing and they look great. Only improvement could be if they provide 5/16 lag bolts for the installation. The provided bolts were too small for a normal installation.
