Answer

Diveman21, perennial ryegrass will die out in the summer in Southern regions, however, it will not in the rest of the U.S. South Carolina is considered a Southern region and part of it is in the Transition zone, we would recommend that you contact your local county’s Extension Co-Op to confirm which region you’re in.

Hi Nick, If your Bermudagrass had trouble coming out of dormancy this spring, we recommend skipping the winter overseeding this year. You always want to make sure you give Bermudagrass lawns a break every couple of years so they can “heal” after having ryegrass grow through. If you choose to overseed this fall, we recommend using Annual Ryegrass only because it dies out faster and is less hardy than it’s perennial counterpart. This will cause less stress on your Bermudagrass. You will want to use 8 lbs. for 800 square feet, as the seeding rate is 10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. Thank you!

Will this be successful in establishing a new lawn in central Illinois?

Answer

Hi Austin, Yes, this grass seed will germinate in the Central Illinois zone. Thanks!

I live in Atlanta Ga.how would this do in the summer

Answer

Hi Red, We do not recommend. All ryegrass in GA and other southern states will act as an annual, which will die out when temps hit 80s+ consistently. Thank you.

Great Winter Grass
Mine took about 9 days to germinate in Dallas,TX at the beginning of October and about a month to get established. It’s been 6 weeks and had 2 mowings now and looking great. I used to have nothing but crabgrass and weed so I removed all that and started over. I had some clover pop up but put down some ortho weed b gone last week and I think it will be history. My yard looks like the freaking Masters at Augusta!

By far the best grass seed we have ever used. Seed started to come up within two weeks of initial application. Grass is a bright vibrant green in color very and came in very thick in a really short amount of time. We got a ton of compliments on the new grass!

Thank you Pennington
Thank you Pennington for supplying this perennial grass seed. It absolutely helps my family and I enjoy this beautiful lawn for around 7 months in Arizona. Contrary to a lot of the comments I see, this seed does work indeed. It does take some manual labor which a lot of people would prefer not to have to do including myself but I feel that it is definitely worth it. Aerating and proper watering helps. My wife and I did all of the work, you have to cut low even with a weed eater if needed, aerate, spread a seed, rake in, for our yard we use three bags of topper and three bags of steer manure. Watering four times a day.

Ditch the fertilizer and the old formula
I have been using Pennington Fairway Supreme Perennial Rye Grass here in Phoenix for 15 years with great results. I buy 2 of the 50lb bags at almost $90/bag and 14 bags of organic mulch. I do all the work myself including dethaching. Loved the way it great slow and deep rooted over 7-10 days and had very little moisture in it so it was a breeze to mow. This year with the fertilizer added it grew way to fast and did not thicken. It clumps bad and clogs up my.mower and stains to concrete when rolling over it. It looks great and we get lots of compliments but it takes more work now. Please go back to last years version.
