About This Product
The Pennington Seed Starter Mat holds grass seed in place, making it ideal for hills and slopes. The natural-fiber mat holds the proper amount of moisture for reliable germination and helps control weeds while the grass is establishing. This item is a starter mat only. Seed and stakes are not included. For directions, first plant your grass seed in bare soil. Secondly, remove the starter mat from its packaging and simply roll is out over your freshly planter seed and secure with stakes (not included). Lastly, water the area throroughly every day or until the grass reaches 2.5 in. tall. The mat naturally degrades for an easy cleanup, but the time it takes to degrade depends on the climate its used in. By staking the mat to the ground tightly, you can protect your new grass seed from birds but also prevent animals from getting trapped in the mat or getting it caught in a lawn mower. When the mat is staked tightly to the ground, this helps expediate the degradation of the seed mat.

Is the seed variety in this product suitable for an area that is shady. ?
Hi Karl- This product does not contain any seeds. It is a germination blanket designed to hold grass seeds in place, help prevent weeds, and retain moisture for reliable germination. If you are planting in a shady area, you will need to purchase grass seeds specifically formulated for shade separately. The mat can then be used over those seeds to protect them and aid in their growth.
We used this product and grass is growing but in spots it looks like the grass is dying. Is there something we can do to fix this?

Do you have to anchor the mat on a slight slope?
Hi Kenm- Yes, it's highly recommended to anchor the mat, especially on a slope. You can use landscape staples or pins every 5' to 7' to secure the mat to the soil and prevent it from shifting or being washed away by rain.
